ezbass
Mine sounds fine with my Phil Jones rig. However, for the full on Ric, rock experience, I'm guessing Ampeg, Marshall or Orange (so valves then) would be most folks' choice.
dannybuoy
Assuming you want tubes I would say Orange AD200 or a Matamp... Or if you want tube grind on the cheap, buy my Tech 21 VT500! Edited September 2, 2017 by dannybuoy
chrismuzz
I've heard a ric through an all valve head and a neo cab and there is nothing like it

Cat Burrito
I picked up a Ric 4003 recently too and I found it sounded superb through my all valve Ampeg PF50T head and Portaflex cab. Those Rumble amps are pretty good though so I'd work out what, if anything, you don't like and go from there.
bassmachine2112
Hiho welcome to the world of Rickenbacker. Orange does it for me.Stick a BDI21 in front of amp and away you go.
NancyJohnson
I owned one for about a year and to be honest it was simple to get a decent tone and it did sound pretty good irrespective of what I played it through. I'll ping a question or two back to you. What do you want it to sound like, or more precisely, who do you want to sound like? (If for instance you said, Geddy Lee, then we have a good start point.) Plus, what's your budget? Do you have the ability to lift heavy things or do you want something a bit more bijou? You want to go loud or quiet?
Delberthot
I've never tried it with a Rick but I would have thought a Gallien Krueger with the boost turned up quite high would sound pretty good. paul_5
Best sound I ever had out of a Ric was through an Ampeg SVP Pro preamp through z power amp into a Hartke Hydrive 410. Magical!
geofio
I have used Rics for nearly 40 years now, tried most things i am now using the TC BH550 and Mesa 4x12 vintage cab, superb tone and tons of power reserve, it's all you need !!! if you used an old Marshall bass head , you would not be able to stay in the same room as the cabinet , would make you ill, crazy volume they are for stage only as they need to be driven to get the sound from them. The TC does everything i need. Edited September 30, 2017 by geofio
NancyJohnson
So many threads like this where the OP has either just joined BC or has been lurking for years. One post, then the member doesn't bother to take up the thread again. No closure.
