Rayman
Depends how much you want to spend. A good Squier is hard to beat, and of course Mexican and Japanese Fenders too, if you can find a good one, they're often better than the US ones IMO. How much dosh are you talking about? Telebass
Try and find some SX basses and try a few. A bit clunky, but stunning value! Otherwise, I'd recommend the CV Squier...
Musky
Aren't the Jim Deacon basses with 20 frets supposed to be the same as SX? I haven't tried either brand, but the SX's seem well thought of both here and on talkbass. If cash is tight they could be worth a punt, especially since Jim Deacons are fairly readily available and you could actually try one without shelling out first. Edit: watch out for 21 fret SX's - they seem to be the only ones available in this country (new anyhow) and they aren't as well made apparently. Telebass
Jim Deacon = SX
Musky
Jim Deacon = SX
And 21 frets = cheaper starter versions, not the ones people seem to rate. I don't think the 20 fret SX branded fender clones are available in this country.
