Jimothey
Hi I'm hoping that someone could help clear up an issue that's confusing me a bit?? I have an Ibanez GSR205 (2 x J pups, 3 knobs) that I'm doing up, all the pots have been removed before I bought it, I've tried searching for what pots it should have had but can't really find anything Which pots would be best for me to use some sites say A250k/500k other say B250k/500k which value would everyone recommend? Any advice would be great thanks James
Jimothey
Sorry my original post didn't really make sense what I meant to ask was what pots would anyone recommend? Audio taper or linear for the volume and tone? And is it correct that the higher the value = more treble Thanks
ikay
Generally for a J type configuration you'd use 3 x 250k pots. Some purists say to use audio for vol and linear for tone but most Js these days just use 3 x 250k audio. All mine do and the audio tone works fine. Yes, 500k pots would sound brighter but not necessarily better (can sound harsh/brittle). To get that classic J sound use 250k pots and a .047uF tone cap.
