B.Flat
Has anyone experience of using the 2 band S'Ray preamp with a JB pickup, bridge position.? I am interested to know what the comparison would be with an MM pickup. Could 2 JB pickups b wired as a humbucker and used with the S'Ray pre? El_JimBob
Not had any experience of such a setup, but absolutely no reason why it couldn't be done... i imagine soundwise there'd be less of a mid-punch than the average MM pickup, but it's all still pickups and preamp at the end of the day... ikay
Yes, two J pickups could be wired as a humbucker and used with an SR pre as you suggest. The two pickups in a standard Jazz bass are wired as a parallel humbucker so it's no different to that. You could add a switch to select parallel/series/single coil if desired. If the J pups are placed in the same position as an SR then they should sound somewhat similar to an MM pup but they won't sound the same as they are wound differently and have very different magnets. Only way to find out is try it and see what it sounds like!

BassBod
Should work well, except the single coil hum would be an issue, if you included a true single coil option. Running a passive J bass into a Sadowsky preamp is very close to the same thing..and that's always sounded great to me. I would use DiMarzio Model J humbuckers, cut off the tabs on one side, and glue them together. Not very elegant (or exactly the same size!) but should be fun.
