lowdown
So far then, we've had one example of a drunk chancer making a punt?
Only, it was a successful punt for her. Possibly not as much as she thought, or hoped for. But still, a result. As far as my wife was concerned, eventually IC did what she hoped they would do, and what she paid for. We have just been looking over all the paper work. Just before the possible hearing (it didn’t actually happen in the end), the woman making the claim changed her statement. My wife received an ‘admended statement of truth’ court document from her. She dropped her claim for 35 hours per week as her husbands secretary. It was just for injury and money she had spent getting medical statements, and some other small items. Like I said earlier, my wife had heard that she been collecting invalidity benefits at the time of the alleged incident. I am not sure what the outcome would have been without the PLI, almost certainly court, but the amount awarded, if awarded, we will never know. My wife would have had to engage a solicitor or represent herself. Even to this day, we never got to the bottom of what really happened, the girls were backstage at the time. Another thing regarding the club landlord, his CCTV footage never materialised for the insurance companies (They asked several times). All in all, a strange ser of events all round. dmccombe7
As my post above, my wife was sent a letter of an intended claim in court before the IC settled on her behalf. So in the case of my wife/Duo, it was worth having the Insurance. It all got quite complicated, because the claim was against my wife's duo. club owner and the agent. Not sure why the agent, he had nothing to do with it, other than supply the act. The club owner was another matter, believe it or not, he had no PLI, so I am not sure what went on there (or that outcome) because the claims company decided he was liable as well, unless that was just some kind of threat in an attempt to get more money ? My PL insurance is through the MU. I don't know if it's any good because I have never needed to use it. https://www.musician...ility-Insurance
So how much is it to join the MU. Couldn't see it on the attached link. Doesn't seem to be many actual cases of claims so far but i like the idea of some sort of security. There are some sneaky gits out there that wouldn't think twice about suing a band. Dave

I use the MU because it’s offered to me as part of the annual subscription, (along with a few other things).
TimR
I was on a ladder training course a few weeks ago and a guy had fallen 3ft off a ladder and broken his back. Took 12 years for him to get his compensation. In the mean time. He lost his job (obviously), his wife left him and he tried to commit suicide. When I was 18, we had an idiot at one of our gigs stage dive into the crowd. The crowd parted and he hit the deck. Very hard and didn't get up for quite a while. Accidents happen. I don't fancy having to pay for lawyers in a 12 year court case to prove that I did everything possible to stop someone jumping off the stage during one of our performances. Even if the disabled guy is 99.99% to blame.
