bobbytodd
ive had a natural vmj for a while now.its been modified with new electronics and fender cs pick ups as well as a babicz high mass bridge.and it plays better than my fender or lakland the only problem I have is that after a gig my back aches like hell.so today I weighed the bass and it weighs twelve and three quarter pounds.im using a mono strap to try to help with the weight but it isn't working. any other helpful tips.also whats your heaviest basses
gary mac
My daughter had one of those at around the same sort of weight, had to sell in the end, as even with a comfort strap it was just too heavy. Sounded great though with a set of wizards.
alyctes
Blimey. My Yamaha five-string is less than 10lb... though it is a defret, so that probably helps a bit. Not two pounds worth though!
pineweasel
I have one of these, and also an American Standard Jazz which is noticeably lighter. Blame the VM’s soft maple body.
BassBunny
My VM P 5 String is only 8.5 pounds.
Geek99
The natural is in y experience much heavier than the coloured ones
Lozz196
Wow, my VM 70s Precision is incredibly light, didn`t realise there could be so much variation in the Squier range.
Geek99
My white vmp p was too
pineweasel
It’s just the natural one that’s made of relatively heavy soft maple. The painted ones are basswood or agathis, hence the lighter weight.
Davebassics
Yep, I sold for the exact same reason. Then bought the black one and it was much lighter . Then I sold that and bought something else .....
Cato
My natural VM70s Natural Jazz has similar mods and comes in at bob on 9lbs.
tom1946
Yes take the mods out and flog it, I had the same problem and did just that. Bought a lightweight body and neck from Gear4Music and my P bass weighs 7.5 lbs. Sorted. Edited September 25, 2017 by tom1946
project_c
I have a P which weighs a crapload, I'm sure it's also around the 12lb mark, maybe more. I play it sitting down mostly. I bought it before I knew what I was doing, but to this day it's still the best sounding P I have so I don't want to take it apart.
