Ou7shined
That Squier P went for a song. The Peavey looks like a BXP and will be a bargain at that price too. Shine are IMHO pants, best avoid!

Oh well, if it is pants, I imagine I'll be able to get most of my money back again. Though, is there anything wrong with it that would make it unsuitable as a cheap "project" bass to do something with. Given what I paid for it, the following reviews look to be quite good. Assuming this is the right model: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...ne/SB-26SN/10/1 Edited November 7, 2008 by Annoying Twit
steve
that pic on ebay makes it look like a 12 string! you can't go wrong at £60 tho' even if its a POS it'll mod into something better unless you're really unlucky

I've been told that some people buy these 6'ers to set them up with low action and practice tapping on them. I hope I'll be able to do that. Ou7shined
It may well be great for tapping. Good luck and let us know. I have to admit my "Shine are pants" was a sweeping generalisation (which I hate) I was just inferring in as few words as possible that they are Korean/Chinese factory made and tend to be knocked together from cheap parts. This is reflected in the RRP. Oriental build quality is getting better and better so who know there might be some good apples in their rotten barrel. LOL

LOL
Well, I can't justify spending the money for Made in USA or Germany basses, or boutique basses. So, pretty well anything I'm likely to get is going to be far east factory made. I have a made in Indonesia guitar, and a made in China bass already. Given my skill level (haha!) I'm sure the bass itself is not going to be the limiting factor. Here's someone selling the five string version for over twice what I paid, not considering postage. josh3184
well all else fails, there's proof you'll at least get your money back if bored!
Annoying Twit
This one has different pickups, but otherwise looks an older version of the same one. Why so much more expensive? waynepunkdude
Doesn't Sarah 5 String have a Shine? Maybe she can shed some light.
lemmywinks
I used to have one of these, paid £120 for it new and sold it for £90 on ebay Mine was a nicer dark cherry finish and had an extra pot (2xvol, bass, mid and treb) It wasn't pants at all, although it wasn't by any means desirable. The pickups were much too loud and you had to roll them back to get a decent sound. The hardware was surprisingly decent, i remember the bridge in particular looked well made and chunky. It was a double truss rod neck and seemed like a "proper" 6er, tbh i was expecting to find all sorts of shortcomings when i got it home but it was pretty good At this price you can't go wrong really! Sniff out some better pickups and it'd be a winner EDIT: That Squier was a standard too! Someone got a bargain... Annoying Twit
If the pickups are too loud, couldn't you just lower them?
Ou7shined
Some of them are shipped with Seymour Duncans IIRC perhaps that'll explain why some are dearer than others. I'm sure you get some good 'uns but check the G & C string in relation to the pup poles... ...that's the kind of fundamental build flaw I'm on about. Played a shine guitar which was the same, nearly impossible to get a clean sound out of it with the volume anyway near full
paul h
I had a Shine 6er but not the models pictured. Weighed a ton and the nut was made of butter. But it was actually a great bass. Lovely low action and good tone. P.
philbillbass
Here's my shine next to my fender, its a shine 5 string warrior i think (two j style pickups) it was my first bass and its a decent bass realy, i havnt done much gigging with it but it is a good basic bass, not the best sound, it is a very loud bass though. Galilee
Shine's are ace. I have a 5 that I used as my main bass for ages. I played one of their sixes at the London Music Show and it was lovely. £160 new, insane value for money. Honestly, nothing wrong with a Shine.
