deepbass5 Posted October 5, 2017 Posted October 5, 2017 Yep - totally agree, I have always viewed his vocal contribution as another instrument in the band. As good as they were together Led zep was Plant's vocal delivery. Quote
skidder652003 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 does the chap introducing the band slip in a little "F" word at great speed there? Quote
Johnny Wishbone Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Let's be fair, the drums are somewhat lacking compared to the Zep version as well! Quote
KevB Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Relf (RIP) was never the strongest of vocalists, various health problems including asthma which must be tough on singers. Quote
Beedster Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Crikey, that really does spell it out doesn't it Quote
andyonbass Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Jack, your avatar was in perfect sync to that clip.... Quote
Jazzneck Posted October 7, 2017 Posted October 7, 2017 (edited) What you've got to be aware of that this is the transition line up after Jeff Beck left The Yardbirds. Jimmy Page, after playing with Beck in The Yardbirds and on Becks Bolero (on the JBG Truth album), blatantly ripped off what Beck was trying to do (and actually doing live) and formed the definitve Led Zep. Plant and Bonham were needed as can be seen from that clip above.... (and the fact that Beck had Rod Stewart, in his prime, as a powerful vocalist in The Jeff Beck Group, showed him the way to go) JPG formed early 1967, definitve LZ formed summer 1968. ......and LZ had Peter Grant as the manager, 'nuff said, .......but Beck started it all! chris_b Posted October 7, 2017 Posted October 7, 2017
.......but Beck started it all!
He did. The Jeff Beck Group was a force of nature. Their gigs were the first where you could say the band rocked. LZ and Deep Purple followed a year later and the rest after that. JBG, along with early days Cream, definitely started it all. Quote
