alyctes
I'm looking at one of these, not far from me, via ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bass-Guitar-Godin-A5-Fretless/172898866777?hash=item2841935659%3Ag%3A1xkAAOSw0BdZ0Rob Does anyone have an opinion about these? Reviews, recommendations? I've been thinking about a Spectorcore 5 fretless for a little while, but this might be the dog's. Or not.
JapanAxe
I tried one at Bassgear a few years back and found it surprisingly heavy, considering it is a thinline electro-acoustic.
Cato
I tried one at Bassgear a few years back and found it surprisingly heavy, considering it is a thinline electro-acoustic.
I seem to remember a magazine review from the 90s that said that they had some sort of metal lattice inside the body to improve resonance, that might account for the weight? Although I might have dreamt that.
yorks5stringer
I had a fretted one, I expect this will go up in price nearer the cut! It was substantially made and weighs just under around 10.5 pounds. Not sure it has a metal sub-frame mind? I stuck a set of flats on it rather than have that bronzy zing Edited October 7, 2017 by yorks5stringer
GuyR
I have the old A5, not the ultra. Not sure if the construction is the same, but if it is I can strongly recommend it. Not too heavy, quite shallow satin-finish neck, easy to play. The sound is like a very resonant DB, particularly played over the fingerboard. Plenty of mwaaaah. Great for noodling at home. dannybuoy
I have the A4 Ultra and I love it. It weighs about 9.5lbs, I find it perfectly manageable. Definitely worth getting the newer Ultra with the magnetic pickup, I wouldn’t have liked it anywhere as much as I do if it only had the Piezo. Fit and finish is perfection, even the action is set bang on, which I feared due to having a non adjustable bridge. I noticed Wunjos in London have a 5er in store, although that won’t help you much being in Dorset unless you happen to be going there any time soon! These will tell you pretty much all you need to know: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zYPr3vMpNc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q2ru-mXTg8 Edited October 7, 2017 by dannybuoy
alyctes
Excellent. Thank you, gentlemen. I'm definitely not expecting to get it at anything near that price, but you never know... Edited October 7, 2017 by alyctes
alyctes
Gah. I'm not going to be at my computer tomorrow evening. Nothing I can do about it either. Bah, humbug... I suppose I could bid anyway. Can't hurt. Edited October 7, 2017 by alyctes
dannybuoy
Use gixen.com to snipe it, submitting the maximum you are willing to pay 3 seconds before the end... Or there's the eBay mobile app! Edited October 8, 2017 by dannybuoy
alyctes
I've put a snipe in. We'll see.
