allighatt0r
I think the specs are very different. The four banger is basswood, fiver is Figured Ash, five is active, etc... Four: http://www.basscentre.com/bass-collection-jive-bass/BC-PORTRAIT.html Five: http://www.basscentre.com/bass-collection-jive-bass/bass-collection-jive-five-solar-flare.html

allighatt0r
Does seem like a big difference in price for not of extra value...
Kev
To be fair, the only thing they have in common is the Jazz shape. Quite different models.

Grangur
Somethings can't easily be summed up in words in the bullet point description. Maybe more attention is paid to things like: Fret-ends? Neck/body pocket precision in the fit? Pickup quality? What we do know about the 5 - string is: "Taking its cue from the hugely successful Bass Collection Jive Bass, the 5 string Jive Five sports a new, light, weight body contour and super-fast, satin finish neck alongside a wealth of additional modern flourishes... 21 fret ebony fingerboard, lush, figured ash body with contrasting ash-veneered pickguard, twin band active EQ and a hi-mass, hi-sustain bridge system." On the face of it, a USA Fender isn't worth paying the extra over a MIM, but folk still do. I'd prefer a bass with the refinement of the 5er here, And I'd pay the extra.
clivem
I'm not liking the wooden pick-guard on the 5er. It really jars..... The grain being 90 degrees to the grain on the body. But, maybe that's just me.

What you're seeing is a wave in the grain that gives a sideways line as well. All that said, I can appreciate that you don't like it. TBH, I would go for a different wood. I don't think that is a great combination either.
Cato
A grand seems like a lot of money for a bass CNCed in the far east, although I noticed the other day that the top end Sire Marcus Miller's are heading in that direction. Maybe it's just a sign of the times, but a couple of years ago you could get a part custom built Maruscyck for that kind of cash.
Beedster
Perhaps everything should be priced the same to keep things simple

Grahambythesea
Maybe the price is due to the dreadful state of the pound?
