yorks5stringer
I've been offered the above. What do you guys think? Its been extensively modded to be a working Bass, the guy replaced the stock tuners with Grovers, added another Fender pickup, moved the jack socket to the edge, replaced the knobs. Also replaced the bridge with one that intonates! Comes in the original black tolex case with red velvet lining [attachment=255374:20171011_150148.jpg] [attachment=255375:20171011_150155.jpg] [attachment=255376:20171011_150202.jpg] [attachment=255377:20171011_150207.jpg] [attachment=255378:20171011_150222.jpg] [attachment=255379:20171011_150246.jpg] [attachment=255380:20171011_150401.jpg] [attachment=255381:20171011_150405.jpg] Edited October 11, 2017 by yorks5stringer
Bigwan
If you've had hands on it you're a step ahead of the rest of us. Only question that matters - Do you like it enough to pay what is being asked? Edited October 11, 2017 by Bigwan
discreet
I like it... depends what the asking price is, obviously. And I'd have to change the bridge and tuners for stock items, or close. Nice-looking bass though, I could bear to have it in the house, no problem.
yorks5stringer
It's a good price but has been modded, there again it has loads of Mojo.....I'm torn! ( and a 5 string player but it is so f***ing cool!!!)

I know, you could buy it, admire it for a month or two, then sell it to me.

BigRedX
With all those non-reversible mods it's now a players instrument rather than an investment piece. If you're not going to play it regularly then it's probably not for you. Edited October 11, 2017 by BigRedX

Delberthot
If the bridge works and lets you intonate properly then why don't you put a bridge cover on it? When I had my Warmoth '54 precision made I fitted a Gotoh 201 bridge so that I could adjust it and a bridge cover to hide it
JohnDaBass
As said already it's a players bass the mods mean you can enjoy playing a vintage bass without worrying that you are not going to ding it and lose any value. You're not going loose any money at all on the purchase but it's not going to appreciate like an all stock bass. I've got the exact same bass that's all totally stock with the crackling volume and tone knobs and the obligatory crack in the pickguard between the end of the neck and the pickup. It's got a huge sound, looks handsome but has a thick neck. Go for it! You'll love it!
yorks5stringer
What a doofus, I forgot to check the truss rod (although the neck relief is fine). Too many new basses! I went back and he'd gone out so it will be tomorrow before I can check it. And yes it has the obligatory crack on the pickguard......As for the thick neck, coming from a 5 string it is nice and thin! The Mrs has agreed to pay half towards it too...as my Christmas and Birthday present-result!
wateroftyne
Those HB Teles are - IMO - pretty terrible, tonally. Whether the bridge pup is enough to rescue it is something you'll have to find out for yourself...
Mickeyboro
I played an unmodified one Keith and, while it felt good in the hand, it sucked soundwise... That's the acid test. I know someone with a similarly aged reissue of the single coil version and that sounded great when he played it. M

With cream covers, of course.
yorks5stringer
Sounded good through my MB802 rig and there's even a bit of edge to the bridge pickup on its own. TBH I'm not expecting it to be a tone monster but a nice set of Flats should help(!)...actually it does need new strings and I have a 4 string roundwound set kicking around somewhere- it was a 5 string set that is missing the B, as given to me by Franco Rocco Prestia no less.... discreet
Wow, thats name-dropping!! I think flats would be ideal on this one. Chunky LaBellas for preference.
