The worst that can happen is the punters remember the daft sod with the offensive T shirt and the stupid bass - they forget the player with the stock one that other players admire.

You forgot the add 'and big gob'.

Nice to see you back in the forum Doctor. :)

Black basses should ONLY have tort plates.

But you know what they say...ask ten bassists a question and you'll get fifteen opinions.

If it looks good to you, then it's groovy. It looks good to me, too.

Big gob ??

When the house lights are on I'm a wall flower - when those lights go off and mine come on.... party time !

I cut down the original tort pickguard from my 3ts 73P so it just held the knobs and just enough around the pup. It looked excellent - the yellow of the sunburst started to go green in the middle of the body. I got a red tort for it a few years back and now I've lost the cut down one. Bugger.

Not sure I'm keen on black on black IF it's a dark fingerboard. With maple boards black on black looks really good. At the end of the day it's just personal choice. If you had a hot date with Rachel Riley would you give a toss what she turned up in so long as the content didn't disappoint ?

If you like it..that's all that matters!!

This ^

But I find it a shade 'sudden'. I like parchment with a black bass but as always YMMV as they say.

Damn! Now I've got some very incriminating browsing history that's going to be very difficult to explain when I get a knock on the door from the tortporn police!

I didn't see the original post, but now I've clicked on the link you thoughtlessly included I will never feel quite the same about the tort guard on my white Precision again. Damn tort GAS!

Looks good to me - but then I'm a bit of a sucker for tort.
Black & Tort is indeed a good combination, and it's difficult to tell from photos on a screen, but I'm thinking Tort + Matt black is even better :)

You are allowed a black pickguard - but I'm not a fan of white on a black bass, personally.... pearloid or creamy off white maybe
But the only opinion that really matters is yours. It's your bass :)

You'll need a tort lawyer, of course...

The problem is, there's tort and there's tort. Most modern tort is rubbish and looks like sliced salami. The only acceptable tort is genuine period vintage tort OR Spitfire tort. The 3-D tort that looks as if you could lose yourself in it... Mmmm, real tort...

https://spitfiretort...res-and-styles/

And then only on a white, cream, vintage white or sunburst bass... and possibly Shoreline or Firemist Gold under certain circumstances. Tort should never be seen on any sort of blue, black, green, purple or red bass. With the possible exception of Fiesta Red, but only if its VERY faded.

Edit. IMHO, of course.

Fetishist? Who, me? Matron bring more medication and plenty of vinegar! I‘ve been a very, VERY naughty boy!

My first reaction would probably to put on a white pearl plate but that tort looks great. I had much the same colour one on my natural ash Frankenjazz and loved it.

I’m with Oopsdabassist if you like it then go with it I’ve got a White P bass with a black and white checked pickguard and a White telecaster with a black and white checked pickguard (I’m kinda sensing a theme going on) that most people don’t like but I love it!!!!
