Jazzneck
What a load of rowlocks this thread is! Does it matter? Listen to the music, forget the bl**dy theory and remember how many of these records were listened to, sold and enjoyed over the years... And believe me, I'm the last person to get hung up on the theory :-)
lowdown
Musicians, and at a guess mostly Bassists, chatting & discussing music & Bass, specifically a Bassline line on a Bass/musicians forum is 'rowlocks' ??? Sorry, the post just amused me, that's all Edited October 13, 2017 by lowdown

wateroftyne
Duck thought so. So seemingly did a bunch of other musicians and producers on both studio dates. Plus, it sounds absolutely fine as a note choice within a great groove. I reckon that means it's appropriate.
Absolutely. But it doesn't sound fine as note choice to me, so I thought I'd open it up to see what other people think. And I think it's continuing to be an interesting discussion. Is that OK with you?

JamesBass
A major 6 is a very Dorian note to pick over a minor chord. As others have said the G# can come from melodic minor as well. I love making use of different notes to alter the feel of a track! For me there are no right or wrong note choices, only better and worse choices. Each of us will pick different notes at some point, I say embrace that!
