Hi, any recommendations on a replacement preamp valve for a fafner?

Mullard 12AXY - low noise floor, smooth drive... although I quite like a 12AT7 - for less gain.

If you like *slightly* less gain, try a 5751 instead of the 12AT7 also said by some to give the best tone of all those types - personal preference obviously.

Although for bass amps (or should I say for lower frequencies as opposed to "bass amps"), I think the nuances are not so great as on a guitar amp (higher frequencies).
