EBS_freak
I've toyed with the idea of getting into EUB/DB... mainly down to seeing StingrayPete on his now and again when I get to his gigs... But whilst one of my YouTube aimless viewing, I came across Lake Street Dive and I saw this gem - Double bass and trumpet as feature instruments wouldn't be my choice of instruments to provide the backbone behind an acoustic setup - but something about this version really gels with me. (Kinda helps they can sing too) Also love this - although I think the bass gets a little less of the limelight! Al Krow
Hey thanks for sharing that - you're right, they're good and the trumpet player adds a lot. And yes you should take the plunge It's a lot of fun. Maybe kick off with a Stagg 3/4 EUB and see where the groove takes you from there? What have you done in terms of upgrading (and approx cost)? Mine's still in unvarnished original condition and just 6 months old, but if there are some easy tweaks that deliver noticeable benefits, I'd be really interested to hear? stingrayPete1977
I've lined the cavity with copper foil, put Spirocores on it which was a chore involving drilling the bridge block right out, thin foam under the bridge feet (I think I did that), the most important mod that transforms it was ramming a chunk of foam under the strings after length! TPJ
Looks like she's playing a Chadwick folding bass in that vid. It's well worth the leap into DB/EUB.
Al Krow
They're definitely a very talented bunch of multi-instrumentalists. Thanks for introducing me to them EBS...you should get hold of SRPete's souped up Stagg asap! I really like that original number too, reminded me of Haim.

Al Krow
Ok it's been bugging me, but what make / model semi electric guitar is Mike Olsen playing on the Jools Holland clip? It looks like a Gibson ES 339 from the body shape (and pretty darned similar to my poor man's version which is a Washburn HB35) but I can't make it out from the head stock? Ideas anyone? You got hold of SRP77's Stagg yet EBS?
Woodinblack
I suspect a custom version of one of these: https://dangelicoguitars.com/guitars/premier-series/premier-dc/#DAPDCTWNCTCB More like the epiphones (the proper ones) than the gibsons I would think.
Yup cheers for that, looks indeed like the one and he's got a different neck pup to the standard humbucker. So there are bunch of Gibson clones in the form of their own Epiphone, my Washburn HB, and this Premier DC. I've often wondered what "more" apart from the brand and a nicer finish I would be getting for the full fat Gibson. I think unlike the American Fender Jazz vs the MIM Fender Jazz, the Gibson is using a heavier and better quality wood as well as some better quality components. But I'm starting to take this off topic, topic very much further off topic...we'll be talking about just how very good Ibby SR Premiums are shortly if we're not careful

But, even if the conversation has legitimately led us to discussing some interesting stuff about the semi-acoustic played by the guitarist and trumpeter of a talented DB player, I'd guess we'd better stick to talking about EUBs and DBs 'cos clearly anything too exciting could result in panic attacks...
