Triumphman
Are there any decent guitar shops here? I found red dog today but I really prefer back street shops with unusual second hand gear.
thodrik
Red Dog is pretty good, Guitar Guitar is a bit further out of the way. Those are the main ones I visit when I'm in Edinburgh. Glasgow though generally has a better selection of second hand gear. Strung Out Guitars is always worth a look and I don't think that there is a shop in Edinburgh that will come close to the equivalent to that in Glasgow. There is Varsity Music and Live Music in Edinburgh, but I can't say I ever made a real effort of visiting them when I was through in Edinburgh. Not for bass gear anyway. In Aberdeen I would also recommend Ram Jam music, which always has a decent selection of second hand gear. I bought a Les Paul from there in June. kodiakblair
Take a walk up Nicholson Street, Scayles and it's sister shop Live Music are up there. Head down towards Leith and there's Rikki's on the left hand side. Duncanson & Edwards is the big pawn shop on Queens Street. http://www.duncansonedwards.co.uk/ http://www.scayles.co.uk/ http://livemusicshop.co.uk/
razze06
Live Music is the one with the unusual second hand gear, but it's quite small.
BigRedX
I would have thought that the shop-based second hand gear market has been pretty much wiped out by the internet.
Bassassin
Live Music is interesting but the used gear (at least the stuff I know the value of) seems eye-wateringly expensive.
gs_triumph
[quote name='kodiakblair' timestamp='1508876900' post='3395122'] Take a walk up Nicholson Street, Scayles and it's sister shop Live Music are up there. Thought it was long gone? I bought my first guitar there many moons ago. Duncanson Edwards rarely has anything bass-like beyond Westfields and the like. The odd fender every now and again. Live music is the interesting one. As suggested can be expensive but they are willing to haggle. And you can pop in to Scayles whilst you are near by. Guitar guitar for a bigger selection of big brands but tends to be quite conservative. Loads of p's, j's and lookylikeys.
