thebassist Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 (edited) I'm sure this is a dumb question but can someone tell me which will be louder please? PJB Double 4 that is 70 watts with 2x4" speakers or a Markbass Micromark 801 that is 60 watts with 1x8" speaker. Edited October 31, 2017 by thebassist Quote

thebassist Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 Damn the PJB wins it to my ears. Quote
machinehead Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 The PJB sounds really precise and tight but the AER is fuller. For my taste they are the winners. I could live with either. Frank. Quote
yorks5stringer Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 The Micromark is actually only 45 watts at 8 ohms but (as we all know) its not just about wattage! Quote
Twanger Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 I love that demo. It's the simplest, most straightforward comparison of small amps I've ever seen. But OP asks about volume - the the volumes are set arbitrarily, so the demo doesn't really help. I know this is a semi zombie thread, but it interests me, so on I go. My feeling is that the Markbass would punch through better. It's has a middy sheen to the sound, which would probably work better in a gig full of ambient noise and other instruments than the PJB. But the PJB would sound better in a studio, being more natural and articulate. Now, has anyone actually got the experience which would prove me right or wrong? Quote
CameronJ Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 You’re probably right about the tonal characteristics of the Markbass vs the PJB but I wouldn’t want to play a gig with either of them competing with a load of ambient noise and other instruments... I own the PJB and strongly suspect the Markbass will go louder. Quote
Twanger Posted February 11, 2018 Posted February 11, 2018 I can imagine so. Thanks for the answer. Quote
