The59Sound
Came across this video the other day and thought it would be useful to anyone looking into purchasing a preamp / DI pedal.

Al Krow
Slight bias on maker choice there....
+1 @The59Sound - thanks for sharing this. 100% agree with Cuzzie - I'd personally be looking to include a number of other makes / models on any decent shortlist (and certainly not take three of the slots with DG pedals, particularly as many folk are not necessarily fans of the DG overdrive sound!) For me, and in no particular order, my shortlist would include: Dave Hall's new DHA VT1-Pro Tech 21 Q\Strip Ampeg SCR DI Mesa Subway DI A couple of these (e.g. VT1-Pro and Ampeg SCR) also have aux in and headphones out so can double up as a quality portable headphone practice amp, which is a nice additional feature. dannybuoy
Plus the Two Notes Le Bass, Aguilar Tonehammer and Tech21 VTDI!
Al Krow
Plus the Two Notes Le Bass, Aguilar Tonehammer and Tech21 VTDI!
Agreed! As a big fan of the Two Notes as one of the best dirt pedals on the market today, I tend to think of it less as a preamp / DI although it clearly does that too. I guess for me a key criteria for a dedicated preamp /DI would be in providing an excellent EQ. Of our combined suggestions the Two Notes has more limited clean EQ options with a lack of mid focus other than by dialling back the bass and treble. But the Aggie should certainly be on the list too and as for Tech 21, Lozz will be along soon to recommend the Paradriver
Lozz196
I most certainly will be, Bas. Aguilar Tonehammer is also great for a really vintagey sound, plus as Danny says, Tech21 VT as well.
funkydoug
Seriously, don't disregard the behri bd121 or the Dr J Sparrow... unless less spending a good amount of money is a box you actually want to tick. Yes they have weaknesses, but they have serious sounds too. Try 'em out before you rule 'em out Edited November 5, 2017 by funkydoug
Chienmortbb
+1 for the BDI21. I used mine for the first time at a gig last week and had great comments about my sound. Many talk about a mid scooped sound but it is not massive and although there are mods for this, it sounds good to me.
