Hard case/Flight case for gear - advice needed

Hello,

I'm after some suggestions on cases (hard or flight really) to put gear in. I have some bits of equipment which cost a lot and I need to protect when I take out to gigs but neither have a hard case option from the manufacturer which is annoying.

Anyone got tips or advice on what can be used in this situation? I've looked at custom flight cases but that's a really expensive route. I'm sure I've heard before about people using camera equipment cases which are provabsbky more economical.

Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

For instruments, Hiscox cases. For (small) amp heads/pedals etc I use Boschma cases from Flightcase Warehouse. Not much is going to wreck any item stored in either of these.

Edit - should also mention neither will break the bank either

I've got a bass flight case which I wanna sell- although the foam is cut out for a P-bass. I couldn't be arsed taking a flight case when I went abroad, so I use my Mono m80 and that is fine.

Gigster too big to fit in there - you may be able to find something similar but slightly larger.

I've used the Maplin foam/alu cases for all my D Class amps for years.

A big flight or rack case looks good and protects your kit, but can be a sod to move around, get up and down stairs, etc. At my advancing age, I've separated my kit into smaller cases - several lightweight rack cases rather than one big one, etc. More trips, but easier on the back. Camera cases - alu' ones from Maplin at al - are fine for cables, mics and small stuff and cheap.

Flight cases are only cool when they are not moving or someone else is moving them. The Trifibre cases Russ has put up are fine and dandy for anything apart from going in the back or vans with lots of proper flightcases.

Also remember - full on flightcases are great for keeping your equipment safe whilst denting your car as they slide around.

The Trifibre Challenger series cases that EBS linked to are great. They're budget clones of Pelican cases, which are the dogs danglies, but I tour two Challenger cases that spend most of their lives rattling around splitter vans and bouncing off flightcased and they're rock solid. 

The 5015 model and larger ones come with wheels and a pull-out handle, and can be ordered with ready perforated pick'n'pluck foam to make a custom insert with, very handy indeed.

Hiscox are superior to most other cases in the £100 -£250 range the not only give amazing protection but help keep your instrument warm and insulated when traveling from your warm home to a gig or rehearsal . I also like Kinsmann cases for value for money and decent build quality .
