Is that red body just a template? Looking forward to seeing how this turns out, pine can be a great wood and (mostly) pretty nice to work with - although I've only used it for tables, drawers etc! No that body is from a basswood p bass kit that I’m doing (that’s just the red undercoat) I’m just waiting for the pickups so I can rout out the new cavities then I’ll topcoat it with Pearlescent Diablo Red The Pine bodies are going to be for my next couple of Warwick inspired builds I’m planning on doing a Streamer style and a Dolphin style..... Jimothey
Now that my other build is well underway and waiting for some black hardware I thought I’d try and push this one on...... I’m going to fill the old pickup cavity and make the new template so I can rout out the two new MM pickup cavities then get the body finished while I’m waiting for the pickups to arrive.....
Jimothey
I’m having a rethink at the mo I think I might just put the standard split coils in this one and save the MM pickups for the tele shaped bass build instead??🤔
Jimothey
Another change of plan!! I sprayed the body Red but didn’t like it so I’ve now decided on Cream (a bit lighter than Vintage White) but can’t decide on what colour pickguard??? Any suggestions please? (But NO TORT!!!) Damn it!!!! Looking at the body now I’m thinking the I should have kept the walnut stained neck as I think it would look really nice against the cream now Edited April 22, 2018 by Jimothey

Should I go back to original?? Or stick with the 70’s style pickguard?? Or should I just go Black pickguard?? Also I’m sticking with the maple neck so colour matched headstock or not?? (That’s just a very rough cut pickguard to visually compare) That's heading towards a Wootenesque sort of yin yang theme. I can't really contribute more than that. Sorry. I just don't like pickguards. 1

discreet
Black, cream and maple is a classic colour combination. You can't go wrong. Edit: Er... looks good with rosewood, too. Edited April 23, 2018 by discreet

Rikki_Sixx
Cream with the 70's style white pickguard is the winner for me! The cream looks awesome by the way, is that the erm.. finished finish? What are you using for the fretboard? If it's something dark like rosewood I'd colour match the headstock, but I'd probably leave it natural if using a maple board.

No that’s just the first coat but it’s going to be a satin finish anyway as I’m not a fan of gloss finish on painted and the pickguard will be satin too It’s a rosewood board so I’m in agreement to colour match it
