operative451
Hello rhythmically low oscillatory humans! So yeah, been away, went a bit mad again as one does occasionally, got better, got bored, went on forum. In between i've been listening to a load of grunge again... Particularly the more riot grrl end - Hole and the Breeders, stuff like that. Good wasn't it? And there's a new Breeders record out!! Oh, ok, that's how you do youtube now. That was easy! Its got the same 'sound'! That sort of muddy but clear tone, kind of almost phasey... See also Hole's 'Violet'... I suspect it resulted originally from everything being recorded on a portastudio held together with duct tape, but if anyone has any clearer insight onto how they got that sound, i'd love to hear... stingrayPete1977
Yeah great era and some cool bands with that sound. We're off to see The Soap Girls this weekend which could be interesting, definitely a touch of Hole about them.
Monkey Steve
love the Breeders - booked a trip to Dublin for my 40th and they just happened to be playing that night...everything is a bit hazy after an afternoon of being guided round the pubs by one of the natives, but I'm pretty sure they were excellent
operative451
Ooh, i've not been aware of the Soap girls - like those a lot, thanks!!
stingrayPete1977
Certainly different from your normal pub band! I'll let you know what they are like.
Cato
Have you ever listened to Drugstore? Or Belly? I don't know if they qualify as grunge or riot grrrls, but it was definately an influence on them, plus they're two of my favourite bands from that era. MoonBassAlpha
Such a rich seam of great female fronted bands, Echobelly, Elastica, Curve, and loads I've temporarily forgotten the names of.
MoonBassAlpha
Just listened to the Wargs music (they are advertising for a bass player on here), and there's more than a touch of the Breeders about them too.

Rumple
I had a soft spot for Belly back in the day, haven't they resurfaced recently? L7 will never be forgotten, mostly due to their performance on The Word
