Classic and Cool is run from a private home but, having been there twice, Mark is only too happy to meet arranged visitors and puts no pressure on you to buy at all. A thoroughly decent bloke.

That's good to know. What can I list as his location?

Is Classic and Cool an Internet-only outlet?  The only clue as to where they are physically located is the STD dialling code and that is not a reliable indicator.

My suggestion would be to identify any shops that are only accessible on the 'net or that don't have a place where you can go to look at the goods other than by prior arrangement.

It's a great topic.  Thanks for posting.

Classic and cool is actually based up the road from me in Teignmouth but its not a shop, he has awesome stuff in!

Thanks for that.

It's useful to know for any given vendor if one can drop in unannounced if, say, on a road trip.

Please don't take it that I have any prejudice other than that.  That wasn't intended.

Yep, Mark is a truly decent bloke.

It is a great thread.

Stickies are bit passé though :-)

Have I got my terminology wrong?  I meant like a pinned post / always at the top etc.....

No, your terminology is spot-on.

Stickies aren't really popular any more, 'cos people are used to searching for stuff.

I thought LewisK had a good idea asking that.  Maybe not for the General Discussion forum but it would help in the Gear Porn topic or similar surely?

It’s maybe a discussion that needs its own thread, but my view is that stickies should be reserved for important housekeeping stuff, whereas content should reflect the activity of the forum. Besides, sticky blindness is a thing - people just skip over them.

Again, just my view. And apologies for the derail :-)

If you're ever in the Nijmegen area of Holland, I'd recommend Paul's Bass Matters:

https://bassmatters.nl/en/home

Generally, he sells new stuff but does have the odd vintage treasure every now and then. For instance, he has a 1961 Fender Jazz in stock at the mo.

Great find! Nice stock, and fairly priced, too. A wunkay for €wunkay and an early Spector for €1250 - both sold, though.

Updated with three German shops! One was brought to my attention by @Creeper in this thread; the other two I found while Googling vintage Hamers. Overall, the prices aren't... well, the lowest I've seen. Occasionally, with smaller establishments, there are deals to be made, but I'm not familiar enough with German customs to assume anything. Vintage Guitar in Oldenburg does have a rather extensive stock.

Lucky Fret Music, formerly known as Vintage Guitar Boutique in Shoreditch, London, have the oocasional bass, though they mainly concentrate on guitars.

West End Music in Ipswich occasionally have interesting stuff too. That's a proper old fashioned music shop that is.

Guitar Classics in Battersea has a few basses in stock, typically more than shown on the website - http://www.guitar-classics.co.uk/pages/basses01.html

Notom Guitars on Denmark St carries basses too - https://notomguitars.com/collections/basses

Interestingly (to me, at least), Wunjo has a 1970 P bass that was previously at Notom - https://www.wunjoguitars.com/product/precision-1970-sunburst/ and https://notomguitars.com/collections/basses/products/1970-fender-precision-bass

Just found Tommy Twangs Guitars 251 Dumbarton Road Glasgow.  Some interesting & genuine stuff including a beautiful quilted Maple Fender Custom Shop Jazz (£2000-ish).  Loads of Gibsons - with the odd rarity (2 pup single coils Melody SG body) etc.  Well worth a look if you are in the area.  Tiny shop.

I'm wondering if maybe there should be some criteria imposed for inclusion. Perhaps I should at least try to organise the list in some way beyond alphabetical order. It's getting to be quite long now, and I think there's a rather large discrepancy between some of the shops listed in terms of relevance to bassists (particularly those looking for vintage gear). Some deal exclusively in vintage basses, while others have as few as three used basses in stock. Any suggestions welcome!
