TomRandles97
Does anyone have any experience of running a bass into the main input of an amp and a synth into the FX return (so that the signal isn't coloured by the preamp) allowing you to have them both come out of your amp? The amp is an orange bass terror and the synth is a novation bass station 2. Or any other suggestions of using the two in conjunction? Or is it just easier to use the PA for the synth? Thanks in advance.
skidder652003
I would imagine going to the PA would be a lot easier and produce a more balanced sound out front.
RandomBass
It may be the case that inserting a jack into the FX return will break the circuit from the pre, so only the synth will be heard. I'd use the PA anyway, for full range. Cheers Geoff
Kevin Dean
I set up my Roland GR55 to go though my bass rig ,I mix my bass signal with the GR55 sounds so it's just one lead from the unit into my amp ,It makes setting up for live gigs a lot simpler ,I do DI from my bass head to the PA & roll off the bass a bit at the PA ...I use to have a seperating line out from the Roland but the I had to have another monitor & getting the balance right between bass & synth was a pain & was never sure what the balance was like out front , Just make sure you have a tweeter in your rig . This is the case for an Orange Bass Terror. I have one and have tried to do exactly what the OP suggests with no success
MartinB
You might be able to get around that by putting an A/B pedal in the effects loop, e.g. FX out -> A -> FX in Synth -> B -> FX in
xgsjx
MartinB's idea should work fine. I used to put bass, synth, e-drums & vocal into a small 8 channel mixer & then through my MarkBass rig. Worked wonderfully, but MarkBass is a very clean sounding rig.
lojo
I've not used the Fx return , but I run an A/B switch for bass guitar and synth. Its simply and effective. I do have a multi amp so can run a clean uncoloured setting for the keys
