davepb24 Posted November 27, 2017 Posted November 27, 2017 Always loved The Bill original theme, never so keen on the jazzed-up version when it went weekly. Barry Gray's UFO theme as well. Quote

JBP Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 Not so groovy but one of my old faves all the same, classic May 1 1 Quote

burno70 Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 (edited) Great thread! Always loved the professionals and remember a funk band covering it somewhere around the early 90's. Here's one of my fave's - Space 1999! Such an epic intro, then funky as F***! Edited November 28, 2017 by burno70 2 Quote
dave_bass5 Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 For me it has to be Maggie Bell signing the theme from Hazel. Loved this so much i brought the single....twice. Quote

TrevorR Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Shout out for CBeebies Show, Go Jetters. Teaching the nation’s 5 year olds about geography and cultural heritage AND turning them on the disco and funk. They are a team of global adventurer superheroes who are led by a disco unicorn who wears a white sparkly glittery flared jump suit. Ubercorn always has funky facts about the place they visit each episode... surreal genius The theme is like the Wonder Woman Theme on steroids. CBeebies have also done a series of adverts which pastiche famous funky tunes... enjoy... 1 Quote
TrevorR Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 This may just be my favourite ever TV theme. Some great piano, drum and double bass playing. Odd to think it had a life before Barry Norman or that Nina Simone did a vocal version of it! Quote

OK, mind officially blown. A bit of internet digging and several sources suggest the guitar is by a guy called Vic Elms, the drums are by Steeleye Span’s Liam Glenocky and bass is, wait for it, John McCoy later of Samson, Gillan and, was it, Mammoth? Great set of soul pipes! 1 Quote

chris_b Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 (edited) I used play with the guy who wrote this. . . . he played bass, guitar, keyboards and sang on the record. It was always fun to play in the band. Edited November 29, 2017 by chris_b Quote
chris_b Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 (edited) The Arsenio Hall Show. This is an out take at the start of the show but with a band like this any theme tune would groove like. . . . Edited November 29, 2017 by chris_b Quote
bassbiscuits Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Good shout with Go Jetters - that's on in my house all the time and I can't believe i didn't think of it. I'm not sure it counts as 'grooving' but the daddy of all TV theme tunes for me has to be Ski Sunday - I've attempted to play it a few times but it ain't easy... Quote
wombatboter Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Best bass tune imo...rarely gets better than this (played on a fretless Peavey) 1 Quote
lowdown Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Seeing as it's now a TV theme free for all...We need Cagney & Lacey. Bill Conti at his best., with Ray Pizzi on Alto Sax, and Ernie Watts playing Tenor. Not sure who the lead Trumpet player is, but some lungs on him. Wonderful stuff. Quote
louisthebass Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Always liked this (the original theme): Paul Shaeffer (keys), Sid McGinness (guitar), Anton Fig (drums) and the great Will Lee (bass) - not sure who the sax player is (possibly Dave Sanborn?) 1 Quote
Frankieabbott Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Loved the programme as a kid....catchy tune too. Quote
