In fact, it's so obvious that nobody seems to notice it, but you have to know Fender history quite well. It's always the smallest detail that will get you caught. And yes AB is only a seller and nothing else, and I love to inquire even if it's not my job. On that basis I’m going for the capacitor being the giveaway.
BMBR Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 Bought an amazing '63P from Laurie earlier this year - he is a true gent and one of the very good guys - wish we'd had longer to chat when we met. Laurie - glad to hear your business is going well ! Cheers, Mark.
Burns-bass Posted December 5, 2017 Author Posted December 5, 2017 Cheers Mark, it was lovely to meet and chat. Hope you're enjoying the P Bass and are out gigging it. 1
musicbassman Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Surely the bridge cover isn't original? - don't think they had an 'F' stamped into them until much later? (I'm no expert, but did have a '62 Jazz back in the day................)
Burns-bass Posted December 7, 2017 Author Posted December 7, 2017 All Fenders left the factory with F hole covers. These are the original ones, with the non-recessed screw holes and the beautiful piece of 1964 foam still in place.

There's an excellent book by Hal Leonard - The Fender Bass, An Illustrated History - that, as well as great images of Fender basses through the decades, includes copies of Fender trade ads. All of the trade/press ads (from stack knob onwards) show the bridge cover/ashtray with the large F design. The Precision, on the other hand, didn't have the design, possibly due to the (smaller) size?
Burns-bass Posted December 8, 2017 Author Posted December 8, 2017 As requested I've added some trade options to the original listing.

binky_bass Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 They are just fine sir! The restoration to the Bajadera has made vaste improvements to its playability and aesthetics. Definitely a rare a beautiful beast.
Burns-bass Posted December 11, 2017 Author Posted December 11, 2017 Hopefully my thread hasn’t turned into too much of a social clubs and a Q&A session! Still for sale, will entertain trades with boutique basses, classic Fenders and other wonderful things you may have. Sensible cash offers welcome.

You are 100% right Old Man Riva............................as I am the proud owner of an original February 1964 Fender Jazz Bass which does indeed have the "F" stamped on the ash tray, I purchased the bass in 1965 and I can assure you are correct. I would say this Bass does not seem to have seen much action and looks in very good condition for the year. Edited January 4, 2018 by bassman_feb_64

VicMacKey Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 A really lovely bass, this is the real thing with white case so price is quite reasonable for those days. I would have submit an partial trade offer if I were in Bristol area. GLWTS.
