la bam
Hi all, this may be a daft question - but just thought id check first....... i fully understand ohmage and speaker matching etc. most amp manufacturers will give a rating for the amp ie 300w @8ohm and 500w @4ohm - so it doesnt matter what cab you plug into. however....the ashdown little giant 1000 shows quite clearly "4OHM" on each of its 2 speakon sockets. Does this mean you can only use a 4ohm speaker cab? I have an 8ohm BF SC.
machinehead
Your 8ohm cab will be fine. You just won't get the full 500watts you'd get with a 4ohm cab. Which probaly won't matter much anyway. I had one of these Little Giant 1000- they're a decent amp. Frank.
la bam
thanks - thats what i thought. i just couldnt work out why ashdown would stick a big "4OHM" label next to each input? (unless its just to show BOTH inputs can handle 4ohms simulataneously?
machinehead
I should have said - the LG 1000 is actually a 2 x 500watt amp so connecting a 4ohm cab to EACH output will give 1000watts. ie.500watts into each 4ohm cab. Connecting an 8ohm cab to one output will give circa 300watts into that single 8 ohm cab. Frank.
la bam
Yes, thats absolutely fine. As i expected. 300w into my super compact is perfect for what i do. The amp is only going to be used for backup and dodgy gig venues!
