Quatschmacher
Looks like I’ll be out of action for a bit. Managed to slice my hand open by breaking a jug while washing up. Long night in A&E awaits. @CameronJ, @Al Krow

fleabag
You've been a tad over enthusiastic with the hand movements , ooer matron

I’m still here and imagine that by the end of it they’ll just stick a plaster on it and send me on my way. I’m so tired now and still have the broken glass to clean up when I finally get home.
Tonteee
Hang on in there, Quatsch! You could always play Scrabble on your phone.... Ah. Maybe not. Edited December 7, 2017 by Tonteee

Tonteee
Ah, I guess to make sure there's nothing left in it. This seems like a crappy way to spend a Wednesday night. On the bright side, I'd wager this'll mean no longer than a 2 week bass lay-off.
charic
I'm sure you can still play once that's all wrapped up
CameronJ
Ah! Grim. You’d be surprised how quickly that’ll start healing and you’ll be able to get playing sooner than you think. Unless of course you tend to grip the neck of your bass like a baseball bat, which I know you don’t!
Yank
You're lucky it didn't go deep and slice tendons. Heal quickly!
Nicko
Hope you get better soon. This should be a warning to all of us. I had to attend occuational therapy to recover movement in my hand after a motorbike accident, but most of the people there were dealing with sliced tendons caused by glasses breaking during washing up. Using a dishwasher is much safer.

chris_b
One finger bass lines and move your hand a lot to get to the notes (a la Rocco Prestia's style). . . . you'll get by.
Paul S
More proof, were it needed, that such tasks are left to women. Guitarist in a former band once dislocated his little finger whilst changing the bottom sheet of the bed. I rest my case, m'lud.
Tonteee
So what do women bass players do, Paul...? Pray tell.
Paul S
Maybe they realise I was joking.

Paul S
Missed it - too subtle Or I am too dense today, more likely.
roman_sub
bad news and hoping it will heal up quickly - but suppose you could use this as an opportunity to work on the other hand technique in isolation.
Quatschmacher
Thanks for all the good thoughts, people; I appreciate it. @roman_sub, yes, I figured it might be a useful opportunity to work on right hand stuff. It’s not the worst mishap I’ve heard of. A pro jazz pianist I know snapped the tendon in his right hand middle finger by putting on his socks! Was out of action for six weeks. He wrote a piece for left hand every day so all was not lost. Actually, some of the stuff he wrote and played during this time was incredible and he came away with enhanced technique and a body of new music. Silver lining indeed.
