paddy109
I’ve just acquired a used Toneman 600 which I understand is a mag rebadge? Any tips or tricks on getting a good tone with one of these? I am taking it to band practice tonight. Paddy.
uk_lefty
I had a toneman combo, great little amp! Stick all the rotary eq dials on 12 o'clock then twiddle from there. I used to have bass at 1 to 2 o'clock, treble at the same then the mids either 12 o'clock or slightly pushed up. Not complicated but gave a good "through the mix" tone with the band when playing either p or j bass.
paddy109
Thank you for a good start. Did you bother with the deep/bright settings and what does the eq button do exactly? I have looked at the manual online but got more confused by the explanation.
uk_lefty
The EQ button is an on/ off so you can either use the eq or not. For example, if you're running a pre amp pedal then you'd probably want to turn off the amps EQ. I personally never bothered with the deep or bright buttons but others may use them. I guess I'm the amp marketers worst customer! I want it as basic as possible!
geoffbyrne
I have a UK built MAG400 (465w @4Ohms - red front). For my ear and depending on which cabs I'm using I usually boost the low & high mids a bit and reduce the Mid-mids (if you get what I mean...). This works for me. YMMV. G. This. And have all the bells and whistles in the 'off' position. If it then sounds OK, leave it. If you do make EQ changes, make them small. Then play a few numbers before you decide if it sounds better or not. Remember that each room you play in may need different settings. As uk_lefty implied, basic is generally best. Clarity is in the mids. If you can't be heard, it's often better to boost your mids slightly than to turn up. gjones
If you have the bass and treble boost on together, it will have the effect of sounding like you've turned all you mid frequencies down low. A good sound for slapping but not for much else.
paddy109
Set it flat and make small adjustments. Thank you all.
