The one that got away in 99/00 Manchester Bass Centre

There was this Ken Smith NT six at the Bass Centre in Wapping in about '98. Amazing instrument, and I could have afforded it there and then as I was still living at home.

Should've bought it. Didn't. Bought a Streamer LX 6 instead. That went to help finance the house move during my divorce. I doubt the KS would have...

I remember going to that hidden Bass Centre around that time, late 90's, very early 2000's.  I managed to go on a bank holiday so it was closed, but peered through and remember seeing a sunburst Gibson G-3/Ripper type bass.  I was big into Green Day at the time so lusted after it!

Went in a few years later, but don't remember much in there.  I was a penniless student so was probably in and out in 2 mins :D - shame it's no longer around

So are Bass Direct and the Bass Gallery the only dedicated bass guitar stores left in England ?

Bass Centre still exists but online only now.

So. I said I’d only seen one other for sale - in Russia too.

I haven’t - it’s the same bass. See the wood grain...

This is the slightly “grr” bit. The ‘first’ one I saw had a bit of a chip. Not a bother to me - I’m a bit handy with this kind of thing.

Well, the place I’ve got it from have Infilled the chip...looks like a crappy job.

Anyhow, if it plays and sounds right, I’ll sort the damage properly.

I’ve included my “proper” job on a Washburn. I can probably salvage this one.

So, it’s called a Tune TXJ-4.

The sum total of results from Google 2 pictures

Switches are active/passive and series/parallel. 2eq and Vol/Tone.

Ash body, Maple Neck.

I remember getting the hots for a pair of Wal 5-ers at Bass Centre Manchester - one fretted and one fretless. I was too skint to contemplate at the time (mid 90’s?) ☹️

It was a natural one like this I saw being played.

Damn It's making me crave a natural one all over again!!

Active two band plus passive tone sounds interesting if the tone can be applied simultaneously in active mode.

Well. Leg one of the journey is done.

It’s made it from the Russian gumtree seller to my shipping agent in Vladivostok...

only 7,606 miles to go!

@AndyTravis in case you missed it, here's a couple of extra pics I found of that natural 'TXJ-4' (it's from a Yahoo Japan auction site, aucfan.com)

Yeah - there aren’t many pics about, although a tune artist from Japan got in touch with some more details. He has a blue one with an Aguilar pickup and pre. See how we go - it’s yet to leave Russia...
