bcbass
I've done some shielding on Squier Precision PJ bass, just before everything done tried if everything works. All in place, pickups and electronics, input jack just outside cavity which was shielded as well and all works,no problem at all. When both screws tightened on input jack there is no sound.I was confused completely, reopened, checked all solderings and wires and all fine, tried with amp and working again.Again tightened jack plate,no sound again, so,when I do 2-3 turns back with screws everything works.I have no idea what is happening with this weird input jack.Any help will be much appreciated. Manton Customs
The jack is making contact with the shielding, shorting out the signal. Remove the shielding from the jack cavity or make sure the jack can't ever touch it. Also it's called an output jack Edited December 23, 2017 by Manton Customs
bcbass
Thank you MC,I was thinking same, just wasn't sure that will do it.Or maybe I should call this thing correctly output jack and all will be sorted !
Dan Dare
I had the same issue when building my Bitsa. I rotated the socket on the scratchplate so the contacts didn't touch the shielding and it was fine.
