AnAnInginAneAnA Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 About an hour ago throughĀ gumtree I picked up this little beauty, a decent gig bag,Ā a fender cable,Ā and a leather strap (a cheapo one, but still...) all for only Ā£200. There's not aĀ mark on it, not evenĀ on the protective plastic which is still on the scratchplate. Just put on an old set of flats that I'veĀ had sat in the cupboard for a while, and OMG this thing soundsĀ flipping amazing. 5 1 Quote
mikebass456 Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 Nice! Treated myself to the fiesta red classic vibe precision a while ago - fantastic sound and feel š 1 Quote

FinnDave Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 Looks great, I always fancied an early Precision, or an affordable copy of one, anyway! 1 Quote
gary mac Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 Good buy that. I had one ,a while back, with a Seymour Duncan Antiquity installed. It sounded very good. Quote

Every now and then I start researching and pricing parts to build my own 51 precision replica. Then I remember that I have the technical skills of a drunk koala. Quote

From checking it, tweaking a bit, and playing for a couple of hours so far,Ā I could veryĀ easily believe that. I've played a good fewĀ basses that have retailed forĀ 2/3/4 times what this oneĀ did that weren't even close to this level of quality. With the exception of a tiny little bit of shielding paint thatĀ trickled out the cavityĀ onto the face of the instrument, fit and finish is pretty much perfect. The pickup does seemĀ a little bit on the noisy side so far, but that's just par for the course with a single coil I guess. The only things I'm really thinking of changing out or moddingĀ are kinda justĀ personal preference things really, replacingĀ the tele jack cup withĀ an electrosocket, gettingĀ a black or tort pickguard (haven't decided which yet), and maybe getting a chrome pickup cover to further reduce noise. CameronJ Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 Every time I see these basses I get a little bit of GAS. Really enjoy the look of theseĀ early 50ās style precisions. TheĀ pickguards, narrow headstocks andĀ little control platesĀ really do it for me. Quote
FinnDave Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 What width is the neck? I've got a classic 50s Precision (mim) and the 1 3/4" nut really suits me Quote

Ā The neck is a fair bit thicker front to back than I'm used to,Ā considering that I mainly play basses with J style necks.Ā But strangely enough I'm not finding it to beĀ uncomfortably big, just "robust" feeling.Ā Quote
karlfer Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 I was after that one but it was too far. One dayĀ GREAT score, happy Christmas to youĀ Quote
kodiakblair Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 Lovely bass. I'm a member of the "want one" list tooĀ Ā Merry Christmas Quote

Someone got it for their son for birthday present, but he ended up being a guitarist instead,so it sat under the bed in its case for a year. I only paid Ā£180 for it as well, including the hard case! thegummy Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Nice one, love those early precisions. Merry Christmas! P.s. Hilarious username lol Quote
Dazed Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Was that the one in Leicester by any chance? Iām glad if it was,Ā I was starting to twitch and I really donāt need another bass.Ā Quote

CameronJ Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 Just seen another one of these go up for sale on Facebook at Ā£210...then I saw the Nordstrand noise cancelling Single coil pickup in the classifieds here that would drop right in as a replacement in this. GASGASGAS. Quote
FinnDave Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 I saw that one, went up and was sold almost immediately! Missed out Quote
Harryburke14 Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 I had one just like that but sold it. Regret it a bit to be honest Quote
yorks5stringer Posted December 27, 2017 Posted December 27, 2017 As well as Thomann doing something similar, I've seen these too:https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Blowout-Freya-PB-S-Deluxe-Electric-Bass-Guitar-Strings-thru-body-1951-styling/201439279606?hash=item2ee6b779f6:g:QfkAAOSw4HVWCl5w 1 Quote
