That *really* doesn't matter - as far as FMIC would be concerned every single one is a violation of their registered trademark.

Then it's a matter for FMIC. I doubt BC is on its radar. Or rather, it probably is by now, as someone may have had a little word with them about it. But FMIC have other issues, not least financial.

But that's exactly whats been happening! There is NO evidence that anyone has listed a bass for sale with the intention of selling a fake!

No need to change anything. It was all ticking along nicely until someone decided to make a mountain out of a molehill.

Making a mountain out of a molehill is perfectly acceptable unless someone tries to pass the molehill off as a mountain. That would be an attempt to deceive and I would probably have to go onto mountainchat to denounce the practice.

In fact, I've seen several molehills for sale recently, each of which had been described as being a molehill but nevertheless had a little cocktail stick 'flag' stuck in the top with the name of a celebrated mountain written on it in biro. There was a 'Snowdon', a 'Ben Nevis' and - unbelievably - an 'Everest' with a little plastic figure purporting to be a representation of the Dalai Lama. I have referred the latter instance  to dalailamachat and enjoy considerable optimism that the moderators will recognise their duty of care to Buddhists and stamp out this repugnant trade in fraudulent models of this much-loved religious leader. Imagine the pain and suffering when someone thinks they've bought the real Dalai Lama and it turns out to be a tiny bit of cheap Chinese sh*t.

Some people might think that's acceptable. I don't.

Indeed; this is only my contribution to this topic as a Member, albeit a Mod for my pains. The Upper Echelon will doubtless statute, if required, over and above the T & Cs already in vigour. I'm not a member of the Police, and don't wish to take on such responsibility, but will act, within the forum rules, on any Report signalled, on this subject or any other. Why does that not suffice..?

That seems reasonable to me; as I previously acknowledged, the existing rules seem to cover it (and I had only read the abridged ones).

TBH, the workload of this thread may have been greater than that of handling the 1% fake Fenders.

I've learned some things as a result of this thread, so it's been enlightening.

Please can I have the 300th post on this utterly pointless thread?

Please Please Pretty Please?

I'll wait until tomorrow for the 1000th, if you let me have it. I've tried to read the entire thread but it's going to fast. Looks like we are making the new Terry Gilliam movie. Yessssssss ! He could use everything for the dialogues.

Someone on this thread bought a Limelight thinking it was a Fender.

How many times? That was a misunderstanding that was quickly sorted out. If you're using that as the one and only example of a fake Fender deliberately being put up for sale (which it wasn't) in ten years of trouble-free trading on BC, then you're looking a bit desperate.

Well fielded, Sir. :)

You keep saying there hasn't been an instance, so I keep quoting you the same instance; at the point in time he bought it, the person thought it was a Fender.

Continuing to say the same thing over and over again expecting a different response is a sign of something, I can't remember what. The fact is, that bass was put up for sale in good faith by the seller. Yes, he was wrong about the bass, but had no intention of deceiving anyone. You can't use that as an example of mis-selling.

Please find me an example of a fake Fender deliberately put up for sale on this site to be sold as a genuine Fender and bought by someone who thought it was a genuine Fender.

Sorry I got to page 8 and then gave up:

1. The forum T&Cs clearly outline it is prohibited to decieve

2. The mod team and about 15.000 other active members already jump onto members if they misbehave, misrepresent etc etc.

3. 99.9% of BC users are here because this is a specialist bass site

4. 99.9% of BC users are trustworthy

5. No clear examples of deception can be reproduced

6. There is no real method to guarantee fakes are spotted

To me this spells non-issue. It’s like putting a roundabout on a road nobody uses, you csn do it but it costs time, effort and does not solve anything really.

we could start talking about the validity of Relics in general now, or how about tribute bands, can I pass myself off as Paul Mcartney.

My mate was in a Beatles tribute band, he was George though. Still funny watching him don a shaggy wig and speak with a scouse accent. They were bloody good though.
