doc40hz Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Happy New Year Y'all! I'm building a Steve Harris replica bass (when his precision was in the Live After Death era blue sparkle). I'm after a seriously chunky neck, like on the fender signature Steve Harris. I believe this is a "U" shaped neck. It needs to be meaty to handle the 50-110 flatwounds. Anyone know where I can purchase one? Quote
dannybuoy Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Stratosphere in the US stock all kind of random Fender necks, but they're not cheap to import: https://stratosphereparts.com/vintage-50s-ri-fender-p-bass-neck-precision-guitar-1957-tinted-maple-sale/ They've actually got 3 Steve Harris bodies in stock so might be worth emailing them to see if any of the necks are still lurking around! I'm not aware of any aftermarket necks with similar specs... Might be an idea to keep an eye out for a cheap used Classic 50s P and break it up for parts. Quote
Cuzzie Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Fender Cabronita P bass has a baseball bat neck, but it’s nice to play. if a G&L neck heel fits the bass body for for a #6 neck, again this is a biggun but very comfortable to play, more so than their #12 which was slimmer and supposed to be their PJ Quote
Lozz196 Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 If you can get hold of a Fender US Standard 2012 - 16 Series neck, these are the chunkiest Precision necks on US Standard models that I`ve come across. Not as chunky as the Steve Harris admittedly, but much chunkier than the previous few US Standard series, there`s not that much difference to the SH. Quote
dannybuoy Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 The comes a point though where if you're talking about sourcing genuine Fender parts, you may as well just buy the Steve Harris Sig and be done with it! Quote
SH73 Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 I was toying with the idea of building a Steve Harris royal blue sparkle p bass. Luckily I found one here and since then I saw another one for sale. It's worth saving up if you're a fan. The bass is awesome and beefy. 1 Quote
