SPHDS
Hello There, I have spied an amp for sale, being sold as 'spares or repair' for a great price.....thing is, the reason for sale is that 'the output transistors have blown and need replacing' Is this code for 'totally FUBAR' or is it a simple job for someone who knows what he is doing.....? It is local, and is an amp I have always kept an eye out for....... Cheers!
BassBunny
Depends on which amp it is. Some are fixable some aren't.
SPHDS
Ah ok, Cheers 'Bunny! It's an Ampeg BA combo..... (one of the old(er) top mount control ones, as opposed to the front mount pseudo-wedge)
BassBunny
If it's a MOSFET Amp then it should be fixable. Check this post which is similar for a Trace Elliot Amp . Surrey Amps are Ampeg specialist so could give you an idea of cost but any competent amp tech should be able to sort it.
Hamster
Which amp model is it? Some can be a royal PITA to work on as so much has to be removed for access.
dyerseve
Surely it depends what caused the output transistors to blow that is the key here. The blown trannies might by the symptom of the fault rather than the cause...
