Geek99
I’ve got a scrap piece of wood to try it on today
Geek99
Updates: the body is very very light and the neck pocket is a perfect fit for a mighty mite neck I’ve tried a single squirt on the scrap wood and the jury is out- time poor today and very windy Teak grain filler arrived Tugbar arrived sanding sealer arrived Have kind offer of pillar drill services for string through and ferrules next: neck plate screw holes a spray test on the scrap to see if I can do a blonde burst, then prototype grain fill and sand seal bridge placement pin placement Edited March 14, 2018 by Geek99
Rikki_Sixx
Once you get going with the tests give us some pictures? It’ll be useful for others who want to do similar, we can see how your grain filling & burst experiments go! Realy excited to see how the white burst goes, transparent blonde and Olympic white are two of my favourite finishes for guitars. Edited March 15, 2018 by Rikki_Sixx Pressed “save” too soon! Geek99
will do, I learned a few vitally important lessons today never, ever do a spray test on scrap when 1) its even a little bit windy 2) you own a black car 3) you're late for work I do this stuff in my lunch break, if I have nothing better to do, so progress is sadly a bit slow. Can you carry on with the blond burst onto your car and claim you meant it? Style it out bro'.
Geek99
a few coats of blonde will be needed. I have doubts about how good the burst will be as the paint is quite thin as @Manton Customs noted
Geek99
pictures updated - if you click on them you see captions @Rikki_Sixx includes grain filler porn will be adding sanding sealer on Monday really wish I’d sanded the wood smooth First as its rough nature Is counter productive Edited March 16, 2018 by Geek99

There is a picture of it in the gallery, also one with the neck (mighty mite) dry fitted so you can evaluate the gap. Geek99
All; I’m aware that the sanding is a bit rough on the grain filler photo. I’ve not done graim filling before and I was foolish enough to take only a small piece of sandpaper to work. I’ll sand the grain filler sampler down a bit before I try sealer or paint this coming week: 1. sanding sealer on the sampler; assuming this will change the colour a bit based on something MGT wrote about clear coats on his site 2. Drill holes for neck plate, bridge, straplocks, rear pup wires. Ferrules and string thru holes might have to wait a bit until I can liaise with Norris 3. Blowing some paint onto the sealed and sanded grain filler on the stick weather permitting Edited March 17, 2018 by Geek99
BrunoBass
How’s it coming along? The grain filling on my project is in progress, but thoughts are now turning to drilling the neck holes. How are you approaching this?
Geek99
i just put the neck plate on, and marked them. I bought a gizmo from amazon to drill straight holes. Useful also for bridge and ferrules as its totally easy to pink torpedo it up https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075MHP2TF/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Not drilling holes in body until grainfiling and sealing is done.

I've scraped a body already for this. the neck I have is quite solid and the bass as a whole felt really unbalanced. I've been eyeing these online to buy as a replacement, but if it's going to be the same as what I discarded already, it makes no sense.
