Malvis
I'd really appreciate any recommendations for Bristol-based sound engineers. The band I play double bass with, Brickwork Lizards, has a gig at the Old Duke on Saturday 27 January. I've only recently realised that the venue doesn't have a house engineer, and only provides a PA. Finding someone local who knows the venue and has their own kit would be a whole lot more straightforward than trying to do it ourselves, or bringing someone with us from Oxford, where we're based. We're an unusual hybrid, mixing Arabic music with rap and trad jazz, so we're looking for someone experienced and fairly unflappable! There's a link below to give some idea. Thanks in advance for your help!

BassBod
Their PA is barely up to it at the best of times, and Saturday can be very “lively” 😳.
ern500evo
I’ve sent you a contact name and number. As Pete says, great venue, you’ll have a great time.

I'll take lively with a terrible PA over a great sound in an empty pub any day, the typical audience there know what to expect from the venue, awkward shaped room full of people enjoying themselves, our resident nit pickers around here won't be there to suck the fun out of it ime. Sorry if something offended, but I have played there for over 30 years in many different bands. Always fun..but at least twice in recent years the PA has either partly failed or just been too weak to even cover vocals well (mad night during Harbourside Festival). Malvis
Thanks very much fellas, this is really helpful. I played at the Old Duke with another band on a rainy Saturday afternoon a few years back, and the atmosphere was amazing. I'll let you know how we get on... Brook_fan
You should try Josh Clarke at Get Real Audio. He’s based in Bath, but has a wealth of experience sound engineering for some top name folk bands. If he can’t do it, or is too expensive try getting in contact with Dan Thomason at the Wiltshire Music Centre. He is their in house engineer, and again very experienced working with classical, folk and world music musicians. Here is Josh’s website anyway http://www.getrealaudio.com/ Robbie p.s failing those two, message me and I will put you in touch with another friend of mine whose band plays at the Old Duke. He might be able to lend you their engineer for the gig.

No not offended at all, I'd use my own PA there tbh anyway.
