All this baby needs is some sanding down, a natural finish and the addition of a black pickguard. Somebody got a very good deal on it.

Just makes me wish I lived in portsmouth.

I was watching it too. I don't think it is that much of a bargain really - maybe if it had stayed as it did in the low 400's for days. It looks like there's a lot of work to be done stripping it back and sourcing original pre EB parts won't be easy either.
Lovingly restored
Looks like he went at it with a brillo pad.

Now THIS one was a bargain. I very nearly pulled the plug on it but I was put of (as I'm sure most people were) by the fact that it was his first auction on ebags. I'm still kicking myself for it now.

1984-85 was one of the worst years for Musicman instruments. My mate Hugh had an 84 stingray with a wonky neck. Apparently Leo's company was subbed to make necks for Musicman at the time and they didn't do very good work. Some were shipped without attached truss rods (ie. fitted but not anchored). Certain parties even suggested the drop in quality control was deliberate...

I'm kinda limited though as I only like natural or black. I don't fancy any of the coloured ones - maybe a Blue Dawn but they never come up.

The crazy thing is that 2 days after that £531 one went this one sold for almost 200 quid more. :)

(kind of unrelated but kind of not)
This lassie is the height of tenacity.
It is bonny but good luck to her getting 900 for it. I first saw it here. but it didn't reach the reserve so it was re listed, then re listed, then re listed again.

Yeah, some people are going nuts, i think it's a case of if there's not somebody that's found their dream bass then it'll go cheap, but by the looks of it there are some people that have just really found the bass they've been looking for... Maybe, i don't know. They're worth £850 though i know that.

+1

as you said, its just the right buyer at the right time, and its exactly why stingray sellers should only reduce their prices below £600-£650 if they absolutly cannot wait any longer for the money

I would've thought that US instruments would be on the 'up' again now that the £/$ is in the toilet?

Glad I hung on to my Ray instead of letting it go for a daft price.........would still like a Modulus tho :)

not on gumtree no, but on here i had a few nibbles, in particular a trade with that flea bass with the randy inlay, but i came to my senses :)

EDIT: i didn't delete that listing.....it was working when i clicked on it earlier and now its not, is that a massive coincedence that it has just expired now or something????

Shame it's only worth about £575 now
