fretmeister Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 I just spent an hour reading threads on Talkbass about speeding up the wearing in of bass strings, particularly if only 1 needs changing. There’s actually discussions about using E45 or Euracin creams or chicken fat or submerging them in melted crisco before putting them on the bass. flipping mental. What’s up with those yanks? i don’t like super bright newness but I’ve got a tone control. Quote
ambient Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 What’s crisco? Chcken fat sounds disgusting. I should imagine it would be a breeding ground for all sorts of bacteria too. Quote
fretmeister Posted January 14, 2018 Author Posted January 14, 2018 Crisco is a solid veg oil. Veg lard really. Quote
Marvin Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Can they not get flatwounds in the States? string their bass with flats they’d never have any of these ‘problems ‘ Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Just buy Rotos, 2 days later they have less sizzle than Jamersons flats. Quote

MoonBassAlpha Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Lend them to my guitarist and within 2 days they will either be dead or have snapped. Or both! Quote
fretmeister Posted January 14, 2018 Author Posted January 14, 2018 I like old steels. The ones on my Marleaux have been on for about 4 year and they are great. My P-Ray has La Bella Low Tension Flats. I really like them, but they are a bit crap for modern rock. Old steels would suit better but it’s a bright bass and it would take years to bed in a set properly. Quote
bubinga5 Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 There comes a time when bass is not everything. Music yes, but not the instrument. Quote
