It’s been a bit hard to determine really Trev. Last year saw us take a dip in ticket sales, but whether that was due

to Jeff & ELO touring or other factors is debatable. From our dealing with theatres, apparently a lot of shows have

had reduced audiences due to terrorist activities like in Manchester, and perhaps Brexit has left some people

reluctant to spend on leisure etc. On the other hand, raising the awareness of ELO’s music and back catalogue

certainly won’t have done us any harm, and people who aren’t near or can’t afford any of their concerts will

hopefully continue to give us their support. Fingers crossed......:D

Did I miss something here?

What does a Pro level ELO tribute band have to do with the context of this discussion on Private Events.

Just a brief meander OT... nothing to stress about. It has been known to happen on the internet before. I’m sure that normal service will be resumed shortly.

Well, you may have three customers for one of your gigs down South in the summer. Been wondering what would make a good first proper gig experience for our 7 year old and the ELO Experience sounds like a good candidate to me. Of course, we could go see Jeff himself but £100 per half decent seat at the O2 and dragging an over-tired, hyped up boy back home on tubes and trains at nearly midnight kinda take the shine off that idea. ;)

Now back on topic... I quite enjoyed private parties and corporates as a covers gig for all the positives stated above. But you needed to be able to read the room and react/adapt accordingly... it you’d planned a set packed with Oasis which consistently fell flat but they went mental for the Doobies and Elvis track hidden in the middle of the set, drop Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova and up the China Grove, Sweet Home Alabama and Johnny B Goode content...

A nicely bevvied audience helps too.

Of course we had the opposite too. An audience who wanted to sit and chat. Well, out came the James Taylor stuff for the first two sets which they loved as background music. Then in the last set when they’d had their chats and drinks out came the singalong party stuff and they lapped it up. You really need to play to the room!

Exactly this. My duo did a gig once at a big hotel, and they wanted us to play quiet background stuff during the drinks reception, which

we did to polite applause every now and then. For the next set, they asked if we could stay in the reception area but put some of our PA

speakers into the dining room for background stuff whilst they were eating! We did this ( fortunately had a monitor for ourselves!) and had

lots of positive comments. For our last set we moved the PA back into the reception room where we played some stuff for dancing.

At the end of the night we got a healthy tip from the booker, and gave out some business cards which resulted in some more work.

Playing to the room (s) is key!
