originalfunkbrother
Hey I have a question which has been nagging me over the last days. I watched Babyface 'Unplugged' '97 and Nathan East was on acoustic bass I am sure the bass was a Yamaha model and the sound was juss phenomenal to say the least, I attempted to Google Yamaha Acoustic Basses but wasnt successful. Does anybody know whether they do make acoustic basses or could suggest good sounding acoustic basses. I have heard about Micheal Kelly Acoustic Basses but would really love a second opinion. Thank You
Maxcat
I dont know about the Yamaha range, but I have a Michael Kelly Dragonfly 5 Fretless that has a beautiful sound both acoustically and amped although acoustically it wont fully keep up with a six string volume wise. The most playable acoustic Ive played was the Fender Victor Bailey signature. Exceptionally fast with a very sweet full sound. Hope that helps. They did. In very small quantities. The basses are fantastic. But they don't make any these days.

SJA
I remember Yamaha acoustic basses being rather expensive, ie. £600-plus. strange really, since they do lots of cheap acoustic guitars. Duran's John Taylor used them too. I think he's playing one in this clip, closeup at 2.05- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_o8VvsDZyA and a fretless one here- you can just catch the Yamaha logo at 2.28- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EN3ifXNrpwA Edited November 16, 2008 by SJA
