stingrayPete1977
If you thought it was a new thing we have been looking at "In These Shoes?" by Kirsty MacColl, here are the Lyrics. I once met a man with a sense of adventure He was dressed to thrill wherever he went He said: Let's make love on a mountain top Under the stars on a big hard rock I said: In these shoes? I don't think so I said: Honey, let's do it here So I'm siting at a bar in Guadalajara In walks a guy with a faraway look in his eyes He said: I've got a powerful horse outside Climb on the back, I'll take you for a ride I know a little place, we can get there for the break of day I said: In these shoes? No way, Jose I said: Honey, let's stay right here No le gusta caminar No puede montar a caballo (I don't like to dance, I can't ride a horse) Como se puede bailar? Es un escandolo (How can I dance? It's a scandal) Then I met an Englishman Oh, he said Won't you walk up and down my spine It makes me feel strangely alive I said: In these shoes? I doubt you'd survive I said: Honey, let's do it Let's stay right here No le gusta caminar No puede montar a caballo (I don't like to dance, I can't ride a horse) Como se puede bailar? Es un escandolo (How can I dance? It's a scandal) The translation is incorrect for every version I have seen so far and it still makes no sense for those that can read it anyway. (@mcnach, ¿Las palabras en inglés son mal sí? No yo, es tú no bailar y montar. ) I always think throwing in some foreign words to make a song sexy is a dangerous game, the charts have a few nonsense ones in lately. Anyone got any others that come to mind? Edited January 25, 2018 by stingrayPete1977
AndyTravis
The “Hispanic” section in All Night Long by Lionel Richie is apparently completely nonsensical made up noises... ”jambo jambo”

AndyTravis
It may well be, but the man himself stated it was “just a bunch of noises that felt good...” i felt cheated. the girl in the hello video wasn't blind either. nor did he dance on the ceiling. hes a bloody liar that Richie bloke.
stingrayPete1977
Ha what a Guy, I found a snippet that said he asked an African friend who told him there are 101 languages so he just slapped a few "words" in there as they needed them there and then. stingrayPete1977
“That is a wonderful joke,” Richie says of the lyrics. “ ‘Tam bo li de say de moi ya, Hey Jambo Jumbo.’ ” He had called a friend at the United Nations to get some African phrases. “The guy said, ‘Lionel, there’s 101 African dialects.’ ” When the singer asked for just a few words, he was told it would take a few weeks. But Richie needed them immediately — so he churned out his own dialect.

Rich
Very lovely, I'm sure you will agree. 1

Anyone got any others that come to mind? It looks like a literal and half-arsed translation into Spanish, and in one case they got the verb wrong... but it's pretty normal as far as translations in songs go. You'd imagine they'd use someone who actually speaks the language, right? No le gusta caminar - He doesn't like to walk (nothing about dancing on that one!) No puede montar a caballo - literally and in isolation "no puede" = "he can't", however... if you say "no puede montar a caballo" it implies that there's some kind of impediment... either physical, or maybe he's not allowed to. When you really mean that the guy just doesn't have the ability/know-how... we'd use "saber": "No sabe montar a caballo". But I don't know what the right person should be... the Spanish ones are in third person while the English ones in first person. I would assume the English is the correct one... so it should be "No me gusta caminar, no se montar a caballo" Similar story with the other bit...

The pronounciation is awful, 'though, it took me a few listens to figure out what he was singing
