Viz Prince does anyone here think of him as funk? OK he did some outright funk on his earlier albums but from Purple Rain his output was too eclectic what with rockers, pop, ballads,..

Yup, 1980:

I think of him as the man who made a Honda 250 with full fairing look like a full dress Gold Wing.

Pop.

Who said you can't play funk on an acoustic bass? Heck, even Bootsy said you can't...

This is pretty awesome. Bass player makes a mistake around 1:40, but it don't matter.

How good is he!?? I gotta learn this. 👊

This by no means what I would call smooth over produced funk. I think " Funny Walk" was released in 1967.

It's raw and fabulous. Incredible groove and vocals.

I love that tune. Over here some might call it "Ghetto".

The bass player is walking his butt off, especially on the bridge.

Just what does the hive mind think about Mark Ronson?

I was going to just say 'no' based on the Uptown Funk thing which just left me wondering what the fuss was about. But that clip - straight up James Brown - really enjoyed that. Slapped wrists for me there.

aawwww go on then another one, last one promise....

Any one remember Bus stop by The Fat Back Band, ? cool track no doubt, but has anyone heard Chaka Khan's use of that as backing track version ? she did a really cool vid for it, those of you with a sharp eye and a long memory may recognize 1 iconic dancer from back in the "Soul Train" days.

inspiring for ideas...

enjoy..

original version...

Chaka's version, well backing track anyway.

Apologies if it's already been posted but this just came on as I was watching Better Call Saul.

Nice! I was going to post a similar version of that great track ^^^^^.

As a second thought, I hope this just-about fits the thread:
