OK he did some outright funk on his earlier albums but from Purple Rain his output was too eclectic what with rockers, pop, ballads,.. Quatschmacher Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 (edited) Haven’t read the whole thread yet. Anyone mentioned “The Jig”? Edited February 6, 2019 by Quatschmacher Quote
Ricky 4000 Posted February 17, 2019 Posted February 17, 2019 Who said you can't play funk on an acoustic bass? Heck, even Bootsy said you can't... This is pretty awesome. Bass player makes a mistake around 1:40, but it don't matter. How good is he!?? I gotta learn this. 👊 Quote
PatrickJ Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 This has possibly posted before but it's jumped to the top of my To Learn list 1 Quote
Bluewine Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 (edited) This by no means what I would call smooth over produced funk. I think " Funny Walk" was released in 1967. It's raw and fabulous. Incredible groove and vocals. Blue Edited March 20, 2019 by Bluewine Quote

The bass player is walking his butt off, especially on the bridge. Blue Edited March 22, 2019 by Bluewine 1 Quote

I was going to just say 'no' based on the Uptown Funk thing which just left me wondering what the fuss was about. But that clip - straight up James Brown - really enjoyed that. Slapped wrists for me there. 1 Quote
