First half - tremendously impressive, but a bit sterile. Second half - now, then - that, for me, is pure bass-playing virtuosity. I'd pay damned good money to listen to more of the finger-style, but I'd be wandering off to the bar during the slap. Each to their own, of course!
P-Belly Evans
Morning all. For those of you who like a bit of rock mixed with your fonk... or ronk as I am now gonna call it. How about this cheeky little number by Mike Patron and chums (might be worth another thread for ronk.. whaddaya all think?)
P-Belly Evans
I like this game! Just go to 6.45 of this. The inspiration I got when I first heard it was unforgettable. Stanley at his finest. I love the album but it will be marmite for most.

casapete
Just heard this on Classic Soul, still sounding so fresh. Produced by the great Allen Toussaint and featuring The Meters. Such a slow groove with so much space too. Edited April 26, 2020 by casapete

I loved all this at the time and it still sounds great, particularly as the recent mainstream has been dominated by dull-as-ditchwater beige 'artists' like Coldplay, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Tom Walker, Adele etc. The great things about KCATCs were the humour, the damned sexy coconuts themselves, the shows and some bluddy great tunes. Must say I didn't dislike the Kid (or his coconuts), but to my ears this is way better than I ever realised. It's me gaining a deeper love of music nothing more. MisterT
Just heard this on t'internet radio station (Generation Soul Disco Funk in case you're interested) and had to record / work out what it was after Google shrugged its shoulders and sho' nuff... it's Prince-related. phnod
One of the songs I learning right now is Rio Funk by Lee Ritenour with a bassline made by Marcus Miller. I have to be honest, I'm learning until the solo part. That last part is yet a step a bit too high for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvSz5A9mbyU
