Some fantastic soul songs from the little known Sam Dees if you have Spotify (can't find his stuff on Youtube). Tasty bass on all his stuff & all.

Chas 'n' Dave (featuring Labre Sifre)

Who'da thought that?? Nuts combination! It ain't Gertcha.

This foray into funk may explain Dave's unexpected slap excursion on C&D's 'Turn That Noise Down'.

It was only quite recently, on here, that I learnt Chas and Dave were top session guys who played on a whole host of surprising stuff in the 70s.

The really weird thing that, because producer Dr Dre sampled 'I Got The...' they also play on Eminem's 'My Name Is'.

Is anybody building a YT playlist with these tracks?

Great idea, I'll give it a go if nobody else has. Hopefully most of the tracks are on Spotify too but it's unlikely to have them all.

Now that the originals rock band I joined last summer has folded, this is a genre I want to sink myself into for my next bass playing project, so subscribed!

'kin love funk me, the proper stuff from the 70s going into the  Washington DC Go-Go scene  of the early 80s. I cant get into the retro copyist stuff like Uptown Funk etc. For my money no one did it harder and heavier and funkier than Trouble Funk

Any excuse to put this out there again. The bass groove that David Dyson sets up at 2.38 is as funky as I've ever heard (and I've shamelessly nicked it whenever possible).

Mr Collins at his best - another essential bass part for a funk/soul/groove player to learn!!

Love Bootsy on this. He comes thumping in around the 20 sec mark then gives way to one of the funkiest bass lines ever. Proper in his pomp.

Might be a bit 'smooth' for some, but when you put David Sanborn, Steve Gadd, Marcus Miller, Bob James, Paul Jackson Jnr and Paulinho Da Costa together.....

The outcome will be a soulful, groove.....:D
