roceci Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Some fantastic soul songs from the little known Sam Dees if you have Spotify (can't find his stuff on Youtube). Tasty bass on all his stuff & all. Quote

It was only quite recently, on here, that I learnt Chas and Dave were top session guys who played on a whole host of surprising stuff in the 70s. The really weird thing that, because producer Dr Dre sampled 'I Got The...' they also play on Eminem's 'My Name Is'. Quote

dannybuoy Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Just post the regular URL to the video, rather than the html code to embed. Quote
chris_b Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 I think this has been posted before. . . . but still worth another listen. . . . 1 Quote

drTStingray Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 I thought this was the best groove and especially bass groove I ever heard 40 odd years ago and still do - so hard to play this and create the groove 1 Quote

Hopefully most of the tracks are on Spotify too but it's unlikely to have them all. Now that the originals rock band I joined last summer has folded, this is a genre I want to sink myself into for my next bass playing project, so subscribed! 1 Quote
Barking Spiders Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 'kin love funk me, the proper stuff from the 70s going into the Washington DC Go-Go scene of the early 80s. I cant get into the retro copyist stuff like Uptown Funk etc. For my money no one did it harder and heavier and funkier than Trouble Funk 1 Quote
Barking Spiders Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 (edited) This is a big fave funk track of mine by the not well known Rhythm Makers. Has a very insistent and catchy bass line Edited January 29, 2018 by Barking Spiders 1 Quote
Japhet Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Any excuse to put this out there again. The bass groove that David Dyson sets up at 2.38 is as funky as I've ever heard (and I've shamelessly nicked it whenever possible). 1 Quote

Love Bootsy on this. He comes thumping in around the 20 sec mark then gives way to one of the funkiest bass lines ever. Proper in his pomp. 1 Quote
lowdown Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Although, a bit on the commercial side, it does have groove & funk. Quote
knicknack Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Here you go chaps... wanted some new driving playlists! Will try and keep it updated! 1 3 Quote
drTStingray Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Excellent, but you missed the Parliament - Give Up The Funk 😕 Quote
dannybuoy Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Nice one @knickknack, saved me a job! Were all the tracks mentioned so far available on Spotify? Quote
knicknack Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 @dannybuoy I think I had to miss 2 or 3 sadly! Quote
lowdown Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 Might be a bit 'smooth' for some, but when you put David Sanborn, Steve Gadd, Marcus Miller, Bob James, Paul Jackson Jnr and Paulinho Da Costa together..... The outcome will be a soulful, groove..... 1 Quote
