This popped up on a YouTube feed and it's terrific. Woods Empire released just one album in 1981, Universal Love being the standout track.

I think that Paul Jackson Jr. (Herbie Hancock) had the bass duties.

It's a wonderful piece of funky soul music.

If Silk Sonic do a second album they should cover this.

Always happy to hear more of PJ!

I don't know if this has been posted before. . . . if so it's worth posting twice. . . . with the fabulously funky James Gadson on drums and wonderfully effective bass line played by Melvin Dunlap . . .

just found this. Paul Jackson and Mike Clark on drums

Mike Clark has to be one of the most underrated/overlooked drummers ever. Just check out Headhunters' God Made Me Funky to see what I mean

I couldn’t agree more. His a legend. He worked with herbie when the headhunters first started working with herbie. I’m sure his the drummer in the iconic live flood album recorded in Japan 1976.

Matt Johnson (jamiroquai) at the jazz cafe, playing the classic Lonnie Liston smith track, Expansions

Ernie Mckone on bass, great player!

Derek McKenzie (jamiroquai) on drums!

He's just released a live album, worth a listen

I’ve had it since it came out, it’s great. Was at the front at the gig it was recorded at too (pizza express). There were quite a few other things they played that didn’t make it onto the release

This is my current listen. We all know about the bassist but as bass players I think we're uniquely placed to appreciate a monster drummer.

Nate Smith. He’s amazing. I’ve heard him live and up-close a few times with Chris Potter’s Underground band.

With Fima Ephron on bass. There is a really good live version with just piano, bass and drums.:

I’ve watched this many times. Really great. Last year Nate did a show with Michael league on bass. Different vibe tbh.
