T-Bay
I need a DI box as backup so don’t want to spend a fortune. Came across this and it seems bargain https://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/SubZero-SZ-DIP1-Passive-DI-Box/1SDA?origin=product-ads&campaign=PLA+Shop+-+GENERIC&adgroup=GENERIC&medium=vertical_search&network=google&merchant_id=1279443&product_id=83422d1&product_country=GB&product_partition_id=392730990457&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrOvt59D62AIVrr_tCh1iYwY7EAQYCCABEgKPLPD_BwE Does anyone have any experience of these? Or any other suggestions?
atsampson
Unless you particularly need it to be passive, I'd be tempted to spend a tenner more and get a Micro DI from Orchid -- http://www.orchid-electronics.co.uk/micro.htm -- active, more robust connectors and case, and fewer switches to go wrong.
EBS_freak
Another vote for Orchid here. Ive got a bag full of the things and never had any issues. Sound great, look great and indestructible.
mike257
+1 for Orchid. Absolutely the best bang for the buck. £25 quid for the little Micro DI if you don't need to link through to an amp (perfect for keys, acoustic etc) or £35 for the Classic DI if you need a link through and a couple of extra features. Hand built in the UK for the same price as the mass produced cheap stuff. Can't go wrong!
T-Bay
Looks like it's the orchid, thanks everyone!
T-Bay
Just had a thought, I am also looking for an ABY pedal, does anyone do an ABY pedal bit with additional DI out? I have looked but can’t find one.
casapete
Maybe worth looking at these too - https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Behringer-BDI21-V-Tone-Bass-Preamp/6LV Great little Sansamp clone for £25 with DI, if you can get over the Behringer thing
T-Bay
I have a behringer microphone that is superb for the money but the couple of bits of bass kit I have had of theirs have both died in short order which makes me a bit wary. casapete
Understand your hesitation, but £25 does get you a lot of bang for the buck. I've used mine ( as a spare / double for my Sansamp to be fair ) for 3 years now with no problems.

BassBod
Jon built an A/B DI with mute and tuner output, and level control for each input for me several years ago. It was great (if slightly rustic) The only time I’ve had an issue with any of the Orchid DI boxes is running a line out put from an SWR amp - just not enough headroom on the DI input. But that really was user error, it was a hot line level signal.

BassBod
Yes, would've done it. Jon's older Di box design (I think the same thing in a different box) had a line input jack, and it worked with the SWR fine, until I got a bit heavy handed one night - the clipped signal took out the power for the PA and lights for about ten seconds....oops... ClassicVibes
If the Orchid Classic DI detects phantom power, does the pedal automatically switch to that power source and cut the battery inside?
BassBod
Yep....ace little box 😎
