fleabag
I wonder if that guy playing has set amp EQ to high gain or is using some kind of mild overdrive - its just too fizzy. If so, maybe it could sound much better trying to EQ for an upright-ish sound, or as close as one can get with a EUB

It sounds nothing like a DB at all, and not even anything like any EUB I've heard (most EUB manufacturers are trying to get a DB-like sound) I'm not sure what amplification and or effects are being used in this clip - or whether there are any effects or gain? It would be useful to know such things - or do these basses sound like that with no effects, drive or gain? Don't think I'll ever be shopping for one. Huge Hands
I thought the design (apart from the bridge) looked very similar to my NS Design. I can make my NS sound like that if I mess around with gain/EQ etc (or should I say I can stop it sounding like that if if mess around). It seems more to me like someone trying to show how clever/trendy they are, rather than showing what the instrument can do, which, as evidenced by this thread, is a bit of the wrong thing to do if you want it to sell..... TheRev
Their Aerium chambered fretless sounds more uprightish than that. Doesn't help that blokey's right hand technique is all wrong for pizz.
petebassist
Agreed the pizz is raspy and sounds almost like s synth in places, but I like the arco bits, especially where it veers towards distortion. Only 34 inch scale though...
Linus27
I actually like the look of this and I'm really hoping the sound is just an effect. It has to be right.
Sibob
Doesn't sound like an upright, harder to play than a fretless electric, swing and a miss for me. My only thought is that this is for upright players who want to play electric fretless, but don't like playing electric?! Si
razze06
I think it sounds eq'ed and compressed to sound "unnatural". I can't really say just what it would sound like if it was eq'ed differently. I am also unsure about the 34 inch scale. Part of the fun for me is to play something that is physically very different from electric bass guitar. Perhaps Ibanez is trying to talk to its main customers, and give them an upright option that isn't too far from their usual offerings. fleabag
Same here - the joy of getting into EUB was to get " that sound " despite the fact that it doesnt quite emulate a URB, its close enough to be way different to a regular leccy bass, or what's the point ? May as well just play on a regualr bass if it dont sound much different.
