Sound&Fury
I have been doing some research about this for some time now. Could it be that there is really no cheap alternative to the £175/€200 Fender case for a Mustang bass? This seems to be a good option, but not after adding shipping and taxes: Douglas BGC-200 3/4 BK Short Scale Bass Case Any other ideas? Thanks! M@23
Would it fit in a guitar case?
Adee
Worth a enquiring about these for £70 but they are listed as out of stock unfortunately http://www.shortscalebass.co.uk/product/flightcase-for-fendersquire-mustangbroncomusicmaster-bass/ I was lucky enough to get a Fender Mustang Hardcase with my MiJ Mustang but there is NO WAY I would fork out the £200+ for one, not worth the retail price !

ikay
It might be worth looking at a baritone guitar hard case such as this 'extra long' Gator case (£80): https://www.andertons.co.uk/guitar-dept/electric-guitar-accessories/cases-bags-for-electric-guitars/hard-cases-for-electric-guitars/gator-deluxe-molded-case-for-electric-guitars-extra-long I believe the overall length of a Mustang is 107cm and the overall internal length of this case is given as 106.7mm so it might just fit. I'd be interested to know myself!

2x18
I use a Hard / Soft Bass case from Gear 4 Music for mine --Very light and sturdy. I made a packing out of foam and covered it in good old Gaffa tape --I put a strip of velcro on it so it can easily be removed if you need to fit a full size P or Jazz bass! https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Bass-Guitar-Foam-Case-by-Gear4music/C87 Will.

Skybone
Have a look at what Thomann have. They're usually cheaper than anything in the UK, even with the 10€ surcharge.

therealting
My Mustang fits comfortably into my Mono M80 double guitar bag. I often use it for gigs where I play both guitar and bass.

The max internal dimension of the M80 for guitar is given as 41.5" (105.4cm) which I think is ever so slightly short but a gig bag is probably a little more flexible than a hard case. Good call. ikay
Thanks, good to know there's enough wiggle room in the M80. The same with some other guitar gig bags maybe, which would open up lots of short-scale BG options.
Martley
I have a Spider case which is a good fit for my Mustang and Musicmaster basses http://www.spider-engineering.co.uk/industry/product.asp?item=spider-bass-hard-guitar-case-11579-3980

I’ve meaning to do the same thing, but you beat me to it. My Mikey Way has a total length of 1075mm (body length 487mm). Also expecting a JMJ Mustang I ordered a while ago. I don’t exactly know what kind of foam is used for the interior of cases. But if the foam of this gator case could be pressed only a little, it may end up being a good snug fit. ikay
Andertons have just replied (impressive at this time on a Sunday) and say they don't have a Mustang in the shop to try it with but the bass team are 'pretty confident it will fit'. I was hoping for something a bit more concrete but it sounds like an option worth exploring further.
Jean-Luc Pickguard
If a gigbag is an option, the Fender urban shortscale bass gigbag is nicely padded and very well made & no more expensive than a decent long scale gigbag at about £25. I used to take my mustang around in a jazz bass gigbag which was OK but not a snug fit, but this shortie-specific bag is perfect. https://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_urban_short_scalegig_bag_bk.htm Edited February 4, 2018 by Jean-Luc Pickguard add image
Sound&Fury
FYI: I sent an email to Thomann about whether the XL Gator Guitar case would fit. Got a clear "no" back form them. But judging by the speed of their answer, I don't think they actually tried to fit a Mustang in the case.
Sound&Fury
I took the plunge and bought the Gator XL guitar case... it fits! As the measurements predicted the Mustang is a bit longer than the total interior length of the case. But it’s only a matter of gently pushing the padded foam backwards a little, so the headstock can sink in. I tried to capture it in the second picture. Unfortunately it’s black on black, so it’s hard to tell. I hope the JMJ Mustang I’ve ordered will fit as well. Thank you all for the suggestions and maybe this can be of any help for someone else in the future!

Severus
Hi folks, i searched for a long time for a bargain shortscale case, because I habe an SX 3/4 Bass, and I don't want to spend for the case than for the instrument itself. I found really by chance a site in Italy were they make the cases by your measure you want for a reasonable price. Euro 65 for a custom made case and 25 euro for Shipping to France (mayne that GB is the same) I want to share this Info with all that are looking for a bargain solution in Europe. Because Thomann DE told me that my SX would not fit in the XL Guitar cases (It is 108,6 cm long)Here the Link http://www.vscases.com/

Canuck
Hello - I just picked up an Americian Performer Mustang Bass. One of the features is a "vintage inspired oversized headstock". It fits in the Gator XL (barely), but only if I turn the G-string tuner vertical.
