TheGreek Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 (edited) Following on from my question about Aria basses really - should also include Washburns but I haven't tried one since owning a ABT Force in the late 80s. I look at lots of basses, prices are all over the place. Some you question why they even bother to cut down the tree, others you think are a steal. I often wonder why we don't have a list of budget Basses which are worth MORE than they sell for. My contribution: Bass Collection Nanyo and Westone Thunder range. Others? scalpy Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 G&L tribute, although they’re not as cheap as they were. Quote
Jimothey Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 My contribution is the 4 or 5 string Quincy Monaco (£199) I’ve heard nothing but good things about them Quote
Rumple Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I've got a couple of SX basses that I prefer playing to any of my other decidedly more expensive basses, both cost a little over £100. Quote

kodiakblair Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Don't think I'll ever tire of playing my Harley Benton PB-50. £70 odd when I bought it 4 year back, now £96. Still a stupidly small amount of money. Quote
T-Bay Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I have an Ibanez TMB30, not as cheap as some here but a great sounding shortscale for little money. Quote

Sibob Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 So what are we saying is ‘low budget’? Si Quote

Ah yeah, these are ridiculously nice for the money. Almost an impulse buy at that price. I almost got one but I didn't love the cheap feel of the neck. The neck dimensions and overall playability is so good though, it's still worth buying. Keep thinking I should go back and just buy one. Quote
Happy Jack Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Can't believe than no one has mentioned the Sue Ryder ... 2 Quote
lowdown Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 7 hours ago, Sibob said: So what are we saying is ‘low budget’? Si Indeed. The amount of Coffee tables I have owned over the years, around the grand mark I would consider ' budget'... Quote

Paul S Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 As the Westone Thunders have already been mentioned my vote would be the Washburn Scavenger. I love double cutaway basses and I felt the proportions of this were just right. Weighed far too much, approaching 11lbs, otherwise I would still have mine. Close second would be the made in USA Peavey Fury - an aggressive P bass with one of the nicest, slim Jazz width necks I have played. Yamaha BB425 must be worth a mention - the low B feels like an instrument costing 3 times as much. All £200+/- secondhand. Quote
yorks5stringer Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 I have a very nice Harley Benton 51 P Bass clone which cost around £100 new. It does the job, so much so I've thrown another £100 at it with paint and pickup. 1 Quote
LukeFRC Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Bit more pricy but the PJ tanglewood overwater really played way better than the price. Secondhand wooden necked status too... i have just just realised I've never bought a new bass! Quote
White Cloud Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Sire have a great rep and sit at a nice price point! Quote
Elfrasho Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Bass collection. Amazing for little money. I have for sale in the classifieds. Quote
Bilbo Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 My seven string bass was less than £300. It's no Fodera but it's fun. Quote
Dan Dare Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 I love these posts that say "My XX bass is fantastic. Brilliant value, best neck I've ever played, etc, etc. Now for sale in the Marketplace"... 2 1 Quote

And let's be honest, people move on decent gear all the time for a variety of reasons. The classifieds section wouldn't work if it was only sub par gear! Quote
PaulWarning Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 one man's meat and all that, I sold a Stingray, nothing wrong with it just not my thing, I sort of told a porky, said I was joining a Clash tribute and needed a Precision which was half true, I just wanted a Precision, still got it, gas has disappeared, thankfully, but I do think it's over the top to say "best bass I've ever played but need to thin the herd" well sell one of the others then! 1 Quote
ivansc Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 This is not looking good for when I put my '62 USA reissue Precision and my G&L original USA ASAT up for sale then, is it? Quote
super al Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 I still have a Marlin Slammer which is definitely worth keeping. Every time I play it makes me appreciate all my other basses even more 😀 Quote
