Deeper and down Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 I've got an Ibanez SR600L in a natural flat finish which looks very susceptible to damage. My problem is that the sculpted cut out for the jack socket is at such an angle that once the plug is in its a nightmare to get a grip on the plug to get it out again. I'm concerned that the finish around the socket is getting marked and damaged. The easiest way is to pull it out by the lead but that makes me cringe. I can't leave it plugged in because I believe that as it's an active bass that will kill the battery? Am I alone with this problem or is it possible to get a different style or longer plug that I can actually get a grip on to remove it? Thanks. Quote
KiOgon Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 This sort of thing? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-X-RCA-Phono-Female-to-Male-6-3mm-6-35mm-1-4-Jack-Adapter-Converter-Plug-Gold/351182925380?epid=1056357321&hash=item51c4222e44:g:FBYAAOSwXshWrNEf Quote

Could I leave the adapter plugged in then just plug the usual jack/lead as required or would the adapter being plugged in permanently kill the battery too? I'm a beginner here.. T-Bay, I've tried a right angled plug and though it's easy to remove the lead it looks a bit clumsy and pokes out more or less at right angles to the front of the body. A mate has just given me a cheapo 'Nikkai' (from Maplins?) lead to try. The jack plug moulding is about 10mm longer than mine so may be easier to get a grip on. Quote
T-Bay Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 If you put the adapter in won’t it run the battery down though? The circuit is made by the presence of the jack in nearly all cases I think. Quote
KiOgon Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Yes the adapter will complete the circuit and shorten battery life without the cable plugged in, but if you found the fit of the cable end into the adapter was tighter than the adapter into the socket (if you see what I mean), that would be a bonus 1 Quote
Deeper and down Posted February 3, 2018 Author Posted February 3, 2018 This is the lead that I've struggled with. Quote
ezbass Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Put a small cable tie around the barrel and use the 'tail' to pull it out perhaps. Quote
KiOgon Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 (edited) Without wishing to be rude - that looks a cheap and nasty lead anyhow, get a decent lead with a proper plug on it and you'll kill 2 problems in one. OBBM here in this parish is renown for his top quality leads https://www.basschat.co.uk/profile/12-obbm/ Edited February 3, 2018 by KiOgon 1 Quote
stevie Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 I have an SR500 and have no problem with a straight Neutrik jack plug. I believe OBBM uses them. If you upgrade your lead to something fitted with Neutriks the problem will go away. 1 Quote
A.G.E.N.T.E. Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Another vote on the lead upgrade. Never had that problem with my SR. Neutrik user too Quote
xgsjx Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 I've got an SR. Like above, get or make a decent lead. Any worth it's salt has the jacks gripping the cable so you an pull the cable without it leaving the jack in the socket. Also the Neutrik jacks are long enough to grab hold of. Quote
mybass Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 Neutrik seem to fit better as well, better contact point due to their 'stouter' circumference over other/cheaper plugs.....and watch out for plugs that look like Neutrik, especially the shiny fakish ones! Quote
